The Iraqi 5th Corps charged with defending Mosul, Iraq third biggest city still in the hands of Saddam Hussein, has been reported to be negoiating surrender.
Cable News Network said the corps, originally 30,000 strong and the Governor General of the Mosul Region in Northern Iraq were prepared to surrender to United States forces Thursday night but decided it would be safer to wait until daylight.
Before the war the Iraqi 5th Corps comprised a mechanized division and two light infantry divisions but it is not known how many of its soldiers survived Allied bombing raids around Mosul.

This would suggest that Saddam is dead or no longer in charge of very much if the general feels that his life (or perhaps his family's lives) will not be forfeit if he surrenders.

This sounds too much like some the "surrenders" that happened in Afghanastan. We will surrender.....tomorrow, Then they sneak away. Don't trust 'em.

You forgot to add that this is the ELITE Iraqi 5th Corps.
To: isrul
Our Coalition commander says he is going to work around the clock to make sure we have safe zones in Mosul to work around..(to see if this is really true)

Does France even have 30,000 soldiers that will get on the battlefield before surrendering?
