Very series! This is hugh!

Demonstrating two pernicious public school innovations in English. Loose-lose seems to have been cleared up so now there is serious-series and Hugh-huge.

A series is a group in sequence, one after another.

Serious means important.

Hugh smokes a pipe and stands around practicing suave.

Huge is very large.

Good point. And also, folks---Moose don't actually take showers, and I don't believe monkeys eat cheese. Thank you, and good night.

You have only scanned the tip of the iceberg here. You are probably aware of the following, also:
there -- their
your -- you're
its -- it's

The above combinations are used interchangably as though they are equivalent. And one other comes to mind, the use of the word "unique" as though there are degrees of "unique-ness".

Ain't public school grand?
