Burk's Folly

Maintaining his stance on behalf of Augusta National that the club will invite a female member at a time of the club's own choosing, Hootie Johnson today underscored that the club's position is the club's, and not just Hootie's: "If I drop dead this second, our position will not change." Good for Hootie! The mindless egalitarian leftists on Martha Burk's side present Augusta's all-male membership as discrimination as though there is any such thing as a "right" to partake of private property that is not yours, on which you could associate with people who don't want you there when it is a property rights issue.
Freedom of association, which has been implicated in the debate, arises from property rights, and therefore is not as significant here.
But since Hootie's doing such a good job of telling the world that Augusta membership is none of anyone else's business
To the tune of "Georgia"
Hootie,
Hootie,
You stand-up guy;
Keep on telling Martha "no" until you die.
Hootie,
Hootie!
You show them gals
Private property means you can choose your pals.
Martha Burk says it's her place
To tell you right to your face
Whom you can and can't admit
So property don't
mean a cup of spit
Martha.
Hootie,
You tell them straight:
Them ol' meddling hens won't get inside the gate.

The American public has wisely been ignoring Burk's little tempest in a teapot. I think I'll just go along and follow their lead.

Look at the positive side of this. The Masters is the most beautiful venue to watch and play golf....without the ad clutter, we get to watch that much more golf without interruption. In a sick sort of way, we should thank Martha!!!

In fact, now that I think of it, perhaps we should all send her an email thanking her for the full time, rather than ad interupted coverage of the Masters...that would really pi$$ her off.

Excellent point.

Seems the braintrust at
Rockwell has decided the way to best approach Iraqi liberation is to discuss...

Unfortunately, those of us here in Ga get a steady helping from the local lib (really really lib here) media. Had the reporterette here this morning reporting "live" from the MLK center regarding a golf tournament. Put me off my breakfast for an hour.
