Long as you're feeling empowered it was all worthwhile.

That's really the bottom line for most of them. Push them a bit, and their justification always comes back to "It made me feel like I made a difference", "It was nice to know I wasn't alone", or "I felt empowered" The actual result of what they do seems to be of very little importance to them. It's always about them.

Suggested Followup for Human Shield Operations

• Guarding the Great Wall of China to make sure it is not destroyed by Mongolian hordes.
• Guarding Israeli citizens from Palestinian suicide bombers instead of guarding suicide bomber's houses from Israeli buldozers. (Hesitant to wish that on the Israeli's but it would be something useful -- for a change).
• Guarding Al Jazeera from Irate Bazra citizens.
• Guarding Chinese college students (Well you have been so successful, up for a real challenge?)
• Guarding Mount Everest from Nuclear Attack. (It's not threatened but hey neither were the Iraqi civilians)

Wasn't this goober thrown out of Iraq before the war started by the Iraqis? Staying in a place(s) that we had no intention of bombing does not make you a "shield" it makes you a "Spectator".

Well, to be technical, they DID accomplish their objectives. The power and water plants were not hit by the military at all, and civillian casualties seem to have been kept at a minimum.

Oh please! We never bombed power plants in Basra or anywhere else. And if we did want to shut the power off, we would not have blown the plants up. We would have used non-leathal graphite bombs or EMP bombs.
