Downtown Baghdad yesterday looked like Berlin in 1989. Jubilant Iraqis celebrated the demise of a hated regime. The picture of Saddam Hussein's statue falling to the ground was one for the history books, symbolizing his end, even as his whereabouts remain unclear.

I would have added that we have an opportunity here to do even more good by making sure the former Warsaw Pact countries who stood beside us get a share of the Iraq reconstruction contracts to punch up their struggling economies, contracts that are not going to France or Germany or Russia.

If the Iraqi's are aware that the French, Germans and Russians tried to steal their liberty, I wouldn't want to be a citizen of those countries there. Likely they could end up swinging on lamposts...
