Your venomous tone masks your lack of historical perspective. You should read about how millions of Americans worried that the Germans, Irish, Slavic, Jewish, etc. immigrants were not assimilating into American society. In fact, a major political party -- the Know-Nothings of the 1850s -- was founded upon fear that the Irish and Germans were not assimilating. The measure to watch is whether US-born children of Hispanic immigrants learn English. The answer to that is definitely YES.

As in France, our problem is that we are not having enough children, creating a vaccumm that the immigrants are filling. The difference is that our immigrants are assimilating relatively -- repeat, relatively -- well. The immigrants in France are Moslems who hate France.

I'd be glad to continue this dialog, but only if you refrain from using insults.

and before anyone points it out, I realize that my reply will get the award for most awkwardly-phrased post. ;-)

I wish they had a modify feature on these posts! :-)

That's very true. New immigrants, especially, WANT their kids to learn English and to succeed.

The lure of the U.S. is too strong, we can't stop immigration. The key is to ensure that immigrants from the South are invested in American culture. Make the majority disagree with the La Raza types.

Not to be petty, but I read an article here on FR not too long ago that our replacement rate is not at risk as it is in other parts of the world. Our replacement rate is something like 2.1 which is enough to keep us out of trouble. (Congratulations Mrs. Dittlemyre. You just had a healthy 9 pound ear.)

Go away then. Silly words on an internet forum do no measurable damage. Your type of thinking (which allows this madness to continue unabated) does much damage.

I don't need a history lesson from some elitist who lives in a area untouched by the damage done. History 101; The best source is a first account. My first hand account (living in an area that is a target of this invasion) is you're talking out of your tush. That's not a personal attack, it's a simple fact.

To state that this illegal and unsupportable exodus from an entire global reqion is comparable to former immigration scenarios is factually incorrect. Your only variable is how fast the children are learning the language, so you're not applying logic. Scientific discussion over.

I would tell you - first hand - about the dramatic rise in crime, the unsupportable strain on social services, the degradation of our education system, the neighborhoods where nobody speaks English (and English speakers are not welcome), the lack of entry level jobs for citizens and the many other serious problems that we're experiencing.

I would tell you about all that, but I'm not going to waste my time. You'll come back with some snobby history lesson and tell me it's all good because the kids are learning English.

If you're wondering why I sound harsh, it's because of people like you that live in your neighborhoods, that people like us who live in our neighborhoods have to deal with these issues. When you stop being part of the problem talk to me. I promise I'll be nice and listen to everything you have to say.
