It is finished:

A SADDAM HUSSEIN EXECUTION ROUNDUP from Pajamas Media. Plus more, from Gateway Pundit.

Report: Saddam is dead

***1:53am Eastern update...witness Mowaffak al Rubaie describes to FNC the execution scene..."meticulously adhered to Islamic practice and ritual...no foreigners, no coalition"...body carried to ambulance/helicopter...negotiating with family on burial location...he shouted "Long live jihad!"...I have to admit he looked frightened..."he was shivering, he looked broken, frightened"...***

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16401644/site/newsweek/

"I saw fear, he was afraid," Ali told NEWSWEEK minutes after returning from the execution.Ali says he followed Saddam up the gallows steps, escorted by two guards. He stood over the hole and filmed from close quarters as Saddam dropped through—from "me to you," he said, crouching down to show how he shot the scene. The distance, he said, was "about one meter," he said. "He died absolutely, he died instantly." Ali said Saddam's body twitched, "shaking, very shaking," but "no blood," he said, and "no spit."

***11:30pm Eastern update...CNN and Arab media reporting that pictures/video expected soon...Iraqi state TV reporting it will air images...11:46pm Eastern...CNN correspondent says a witness reports there was "fear in Hussein's face" as he headed to execution...Celebration...more execution witness details...refused to wear a hood...had a Koran...shouted "Allahu Akbar!"...FNC reports that a witness says Saddam struggled when taken from his cell...*** Bryan Preston sums up the tyrant's bloody resume. Mark Coffey draws on Thomas Jefferson.

 Saddam is dead [ 1, 2, 3 ]

We could learn a few things from Iraq’s court system.-- 29 Comments » Amen to that. In the U.S. murderers of the most heinous variety live on the taxpayer’s dime for decades and become cult celebrities. Try them and if convicted, give them an appeal. If the appeal fails, then up the long ladder and down the short rope.  The execution “was filmed and God willing it will be shown."

10:40 - CNN now reports that video and images will be given to the media. I'm going to pack it in for the evening, but I'll check to see what they have in the morning.

Germany was the main chemical supplier for Saddam. However, the 3 main suppliers for arms to Saddam's military were:

1) USSR - 57%
2) France - 13%
3) China - 12%

These 3 countries supplied 82% of Saddam's arms. The USA? A whopping 1%. And guess which 3 countries on the UN Security Council did everything they could to halt the liberation of Iraq...

Saddam Dead - Dearborn Dances

I would have illustrated this with a photo of it, but I can’t find any. Apparently the Iraqi-American community is dancing in Dearborn. UPDATE: Clarity and Resolve has found a picture. CNN links to video here.

Dave Alwatan wore an Iraqi flag around his shoulders and flashed a peace sign to everyone he passed at the Karbalaa Islamic Educational Center in this suburb of Detroit, a city that has one of the nation’s largest concentrations of people with roots in the Middle East.

“Peace,” he said, grinning and laughing. “Now there will be peace for my family.”

Alwatan, 32, said Saddam’s forces tortured and killed relatives that were left behind when Alwatan left
Iraq in 1991.

Quote from President Bush: “It is a testament to the Iraqi people’s resolve to move forward after decades of oppression that, despite his terrible crimes against his own people, Saddam Hussein received a fair trial. It is an important milestone on Iraq’s course to becoming a democracy that can govern, sustain, and defend itself.”

I’d say that’s probably correct. This something Iraq has done on its own, before the world, and it emphasizes their fledgling sovereignty. It might - might - help them.

Sensible Mom notes that CBS, which did not cut into programming to mark the death of Gerald Ford, did manage to do so for Saddam’s death. One wonders if Harry Reid, also disinterested in the death of a former GOP president, will comment on Saddam’s death.

Radio Equalizer has the reaction from the Bush-obsessed on the left. They’re thinking a sovereign nation like Iraq (or the US) has no business charting its own course and should have remanded Hussein to the International Criminal Court. Right. The Bush-obsessed - who cannot process any information at all except through the prism of their BDS, are foaming over all this. There line - essentially - goes like this: “Well, yeah, okay, Hussein was bad but he should have been tried by the International Court - not his own countrymen - and Bush, who is AT LEAST AS BAD IF NOT WORSE than poor old Saddam, should be hanging with him.”

Alrighty, then. As I said earlier, one wonders what their reaction would be if only a president Clinton or Gore or Kerry were the president behind Saddam’s capture, trial and sentencing. I think there’s a good bet they’d be talking about a nation’s right to its own laws…and how just it all is. If this does not demonstrate how utterly owned they are by their own hate, I wonder what will.

Just think, if only President Clinton had gone after Saddam back when he tried to assassinate Bush 41 - had he responded decisively to that clear act of war - the world might be an incredibly different place right now. Ah, well.

Gay Patriot notes that some on the left are - predictably - calling for the execution of George W. Bush.

Ed Driscoll has a terrific round-up of not-seen everywhere links.

Confederate Yankee has more from the Bush-obsessed and also notes that he’s been more accurate than the MSM regarding the timing of when it went down. Scroll down.

Jules Crittenden has reactions from left and right.

Hot Air has a fine round-up, the “quote of the year,” and collection of stories. As does The Moderate Voice.

Tammy Bruce links to a scathing obit for Saddam from The Times of London. They still manage to bash Bush, but they’re not crying for Saddam.

Gateway Pundit has updates and a stirring visual recap with lots of pics, remembrances and recaps. Less graphic than Flopping Aces’ live thread, which is not for everyone. Curt finishes off with some interesting video from CNN.

PJM’s Editor in Seattle notes that for a lameduck President Bush dominated the 2006 news in one way or another - even into its last days. They’ve also got a running roundup on all this.

And now the blogs, left and right, watch each other respond.

An emailer wrote to say that Anderson Cooper has been impressive - repeatedly stating that Saddam was a tyrant and that the Iraqi people would not be free of him were it not for coalition troops. “He seems to understand how big this is, that’s it’s bigger than hating Bush.” Well, that’s something, I guess.

The Execution of Saddam Hussein - UPDATES!

I’ve never been able to rest easy on the question of the death penalty in the US - or the matter of state-sanctioned execution. As a pro-life Catholic, I have issues with it…but on the other hand, I know that there are times it can be considered the better choice.Stephen Bainbridge does a good job of mulling over Saddam’s execution from a Catholic perspective.

UPDATE II: Predictably and pathetically, the Bush-obsessed are wondering if Saddam’s execution might help him. Unreal. Some people really can’t function unless everything is wrought through their political wringer.

Related: Saddam, Bush and Eden, Again

Curt at Flopping Aces is running a live thread and showing graphic reminders - you’re warned.

Iraqis Hold Ceremony to Bury Victims of Saddam's Anfal Genocide... World Is Silent

Some things never change...
The American media is still turning a blind eye on Saddam Hussein's mass graves and genocide in Iraq.
It doesn't fit their narrative.

Saddam Hussein murdered 182,000 Iraqis during the Anfal campaign in the early 80's.
This was more than Al-Qaeda and insurgents managed to kill over the past 6 years of war.

Iraqi Kurds held a ceremony today to bury the remains of 187 victims of the Anfal Genocide Campaign by former President Saddam Hussein.
The US media ignored this story today.
Iraqi Aswat Aliraq News reported:

Ceremonies on Tuesday were held in Kurdistan’s southern area of Kermyan to mark the burial of the remains of 187 victims of al-Anfal campaign in the presence of thousands of local residents.

The coffins carrying the bodies were wrapped in the Kurdistan region’s flags and prayers were offered for the souls of the victims in the midst of an increased security presence.

The Kermyan mayor, Tareq Rasheed, had told Aswat al-Iraq news agency that the remains of those victims will be buried in the area of Dibin in Kermyan on Tuesday (April 14) in ceremonies to be attended by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barazani.

Representatives of the two presidents attended the ceremonies.
The former Iraqi regime launched a series of campaigns codenamed Anfal during the early 1980s, which resulted in the death of thousands of Kurds, most of them were buried in mass graves all over Iraq.

According to figures released by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), more than 182,000 persons were killed in the Anfal campaign.
During the presidential campaign Barack Obama said that not even genocide was a good enough reason to keep US troops in Iraq.

Last week, President Obama apologized for American action that liberated Iraq from the genocidal tyrant Saddam Hussein.

Just so you know...

A visit to Saddam’s chamber of horrors

The entrance to the genocide museum is in the back of the building. To get there from the front you have to walk past one of the rape rooms. Women’s underwear and contraceptives were found in that room when the prison was liberated by the Peshmerga.
The hardest thing to see was the cell used to hold children before they were murdered. My translator Alan read some of the messages carved into the wall.

“I was ten years old. But they changed my age to 18 for execution.”

But, but... "Boosh Lied, People Died..."

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON, MINISTERS OF TRUTH: “It is quite astounding that the mainstream liberal media — NY Times, Washington Post, NPR, PBS, Time, Newsweek, etc. — has simply offered no substantive criticism of Obama’s flips on renditions, military tribunals, wiretaps, intercepts, Iraq, or — given their past fury over the Bush deficits — the Obama plan to run up more red ink in a year than Bush did in eight. . . . Quite scary, all this chest-thumping about tough journalistic integrity of 2001-8 suddenly devolving into, ‘Hey everyone, we can reassure you that the Emperor really does have clothes on.’”
