2004.
Gov. (Fast Eddie) Rendell said he was angry that the commission had voted before the legislature approved allowing slot machines at racetracks.
Eddie has said he wanted the license-granting commission to wait until it had a pool of applications to consider.
I guess we could check to see who gave most to Eddie's war chest. Or you skeptics could believe him when he said he was pleased that the Chester location was chosen. "If I could pick, I would have picked Chester, because they need it."
(Heh,heh.)

Philadelphia Fats has now proposed a hefty beer tax hike. He wants to raise the tax on a gallon of beer for the first time since 1947, from 8 cents to a quarter. It would add 14 cents to the cost of an average six pack and theoretically raise $55 million.
But, there are those who remember Pennsylvania as a prime beer brewing state. Our breweries and distributors are being taxed out of existence.
David Casinelli, of the D.G. Yuengling & Son said, "for us to eat half a buck a case would be very difficult for us at this stage of the game.''
Yuengling sells about 850,000 barrels of beer a year in Pennsylvania, Casinelli said. Based on those sales figures, the proposed tax hike would cost the brewer $4.5 million.
Yuengling brews a delicious beer. I would hate to see Fats kill it.

Since Ed Rendell:
Looks like a Mafia Thug,
Acts like a Mafia Thug,
Talks like a Mafia Thug,
It's only logical to conclude:
Ed Rendell IS a Mafia Thug!
I rest my case.
This is going to be a very longggggg 4 years..........
That would be me! Don't nobody mess with my Yuengling Lager!
Look at the bright side. Consider the comic relief.
Yuengling Lager and Black and Tan. Always my first and second choices. A few years ago, at a firehouse bar that I visited on regular occasions, they had Black and Tan on tap - woohoo! And only .60 a glass!
Yuengling has made quite a surge the past several years. When I was a kid, Yuengling was one of the "cheap" beers. Now its almost "upscale". Nice turn around.
Note: I don't think Fast Eddie gives a hoot about Yuengling - Dick Yuengling was a big Dubya supporter. He was a delegate to the GOP convention when it was held in Philly in 2000. Another reason to go buy another case of Lager! What the heck - I'll pick up a Black and Tan, too.
