It looked at first like the rope was around the arm of the statue. I couldn't help thinking of the Saddam joke that is going around.
The eight Saddam body doubles are gathered in one of the bunkers in downtown Baghdad. Tariq Aziz, the deputy prime minister, comes in and says, "I have some good news and some bad news." They ask for the good news first. Aziz says, 'The good news is that Saddam is still alive, so you all still have jobs."
"And the bad news?" they ask.
Aziz replies, "He's lost an arm."

March 6 from Garafalo:
GARAFALO: I would be so willing to say, "I'm sorry". I hope to God that I can be made a buffoon of, that people will say, "You were wrong. You were a fatalist". And I will go to the White House on my knees on cut glass..."
Added note to Garafalo: You are a buffoon. You were wrong. You were a fatalist.

Kinda makes you wish Hussein is alive, just so he can see this.

Wonderful, wonderful thread of photos. Thanks for your hard work!

The second one looks like it will make a great Honda, Toyota, or whatever car was dragging the statue along the street, commercial.
Too bad they didn't tie the Energizer Bunny to one of the statues. It keeps pulling, and pulling, and pulling...

I just hope that Dubya will (soon) call for a National Day of Thanksgiving.
Not only to give thanks for the liberation of Iraq and the admirable conduct and
bravery of the Coalition troops...
but to express remorse that anyone in Iraq had to lose their life (or have
their lives blighted) because of Saddam and Co.
And to pray for guidance in helping all the groups of Iraqis find a way
to make a better, free Iraq.
It's been a great event; now the hard part starts.
