A statue of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is dragged by a car in Baghdad after US tanks rolled into the heart of the Iraqi capital.

This morning, Katie Coocoo was talking about Saddam being injured in the "restaurant bombing", yet escaping to Tikrit, and "hopefully" to Syria for medical treatment. I am still in disbelief.

Peetah Jennings was despondent, too. He actually criticized the Marine who covered Saddam's head with the Flag. Jennings and Koppel kept trying to come up with bad news to counter the image of the statue falling. ABC's coverage wasn't too bad before; Jennings must have run to the studio to try to throw a wet blanket on things.

That's exactly what I would expect from Peetah Jennings! Unfortunately I turned the TV on after the American flag was taken off, and the Iraqi flag replaced it. What exactly happened between the time the US flag was replaced by the Iraqi one?

As the statue was toppling, Brit Hume of Fox News said the BBC wasn't even covering this event in Baghdad! They were covering some earthquake in India. Even Al Jazeera was beaming these images of Saddam being toppled all over the Arab world!

Did you hear David Asman commenting to Bridget Quinn awhile ago (Fox News)? He was breaking up while explaining that his son is a Marine over in Iraq right now... he had received either a phone call or e-mail from his son recently... his son said to him: "Dad, can you believe this? I'm going to be making the news, and you're going to be covering it!"

*sniff*

Just wait till the "Perky" one gets a look at one of these!

Does anyone know Perky Katie's e-mail address? I think it's about time we sent her a few messages re: her anti-Bush, anti-American remarks of late!

AND we can send her a copy of one of Registered's dinars! :-)

I was listening on radio, which was piping in Peetah's TV commentary. I believe they took down the US flag when the M-88 pulled up and they began working to attach the cable. I certainly would have taken the flag down at that point to avoid it being pulled to the ground.

There is a large chunk of the Berlin wall at the Reagan Library

There are chunks of that Berlin wall all over the place... I've seen them in NYC, all over Europe, Eastern Canada... I hope to visit the Reagan Library someday.

Thanks for the info. As I turned on the TV, I heard about some controversy with the American flag and I saw the marine attaching the Iraqi flag to the statue. Then I raced to find a VHS tape (and to turn on the computer)!

"a desecration."

Sheesh, I pity her boyfriend or husband who must not desecrate her.

Shepherd Smith - awesome. The take of the child beating the statue with his shoes.. no lower place on earth than beneath my shoes !! Guess I'll sit here in front of the tv all day.

Anyone notice that the Iraqi flag held up was the old flag without the arabic phrase on it?

Ozymandius
by Percy Bysshe Shelley
First Published in 1817
-----------------------------------------------------------

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said--"Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desart . . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandius, King of Kings,
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

I saw a report by a British reporter embedded with the 101st showing a souvenir they took to put in their museum back at Fort Campbell. It was the head taken off a Saddam statue that stood in front of the Secretariat of the Special Republican Guard. The 101st stormed the facility, so they had first dibs on the head. There are so many statues of Saddam Hussein in Iraq that they will be plenty of his heads to go around.
