Damn, I wish I had stayed home to watch this. But my daughter had taken the tv remote to her bedroom last night, so I didn't bother turning on the tv this morning.

I honestly can't understand how people thought this was the wrong thing to do. Some people must be insane. I've been thinking about this as I ponder the scene of the toppling of Saddam. I am absolutely jubilant to the point of tears!!! Don't you think it's the "spirit" within us crying out for liberty and justice. The other side has a spirit within them, too.

raqis topple large Saddam statue in Baghdad heart
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. troops pulled down a 20-foot high statue of President Saddam Hussein in central Baghdad Wednesday and Iraqis danced on it in contempt for the man who ruled them with an iron grip for 24 years.
In scenes reminiscent of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Iraqis earlier took a sledgehammer to the marble plinth under the statue of Saddam. Youths had placed a noose around the statue's neck and attached the rope to a U.S. truck.
The metal statue, showing Saddam with one arm raised above his head, was erected in 2001, replacing a gate and arch structure that was called the Unknown Soldier Monument.
Saddam, who has ruled Iraq through three wars and years of suffering since he assumed the presidency of his oil-rich country in 1979, had vowed to defeat an invasion launched by the United States and Britain last month to overthrow him.
But his forces offered little resistance as U.S. forces thrust deep into the heart of the Iraqi capital on Wednesday. U.S. Marines had rumbled up to the Palestine Hotel, overlooking the statue, in the late afternoon.

Forget the human shield. It's been fun to see the agony of defeat on DU. I kind of wonder what kind of cold stuff these people are made from.

Think I can get a piece on EBay? I think you've stumbled across a way to fund the rebuilding of Iraq, and cut out the UN middle man.
Step 1:Sell Oil.
Step 2:Sell Saddam war trophies on Ebay.
Step 3:Profit!

Great hymn!
Are you sure it's in the Sacred Harp? Could it be in the Southern Harmony or Christian Harmony? I checked my 1971 Denson edition as well as my 1911 "Original Sacred Harp" and couldn't find it in either one. I was all set to sing it too :-( . ..
If you ever have the chance to attend a Sacred Harp singing, do it! It is a marvelous, uplifting experience.

They can send the statue to Seattle City Councilman Nick "Pimple Assed" Licata.

It's now clear that we went to war because we wanted their statues.

Re Baghdad Bob - ya gotta give the sap credit for his sheer, unadulterated audacity.
I actually kinda miss his ugly puss on the TV, in an odd sort of way.
Kind of like Juraldo Whatzizname...
