Journalists watched young men and boys sack the United Nations headquarters in the Canal Hotel to the east of the city centre. One witness saw looters ransack sports shops around the bombed Iraqi Olympic Committee building, formerly the headquarters of Saddam's elder son, Uday.

Residents threw flowers at the armoured column as it swept past, just three kilometres east of the central Jumhuriyya Bridge over the Tigris river. Joy at the apparent removal of Saddam Hussein was tangible, with one man beating a canvas portrait of him with his slipper.

"United Nations headquarters sacked"

This would have made a better headline

Instead of looting I prefer to call this repossession. It's their stuff and they're taking it back.

Wow! Is the Al Jazeera reporter actually understanding now that this indeed was a war to FREE the Iraqi people, and not to invade as conquerors? I'm astounded!

Residents threw flowers at the armoured column as it swept past

Now run this through the CNN filter, and voila!

Enraged Iraqi victims hurled objects at the heavily armed, marauding invaders

Residents threw flowers

Last night Ollie North mentioned this happening and said, "I've been in the country a month and have yet to see a flower." He couldn't figure out where they were getting them.

The UN, the other god of the muslims... or why do muslim useful idiots break the rules of the Koran for the UN and dictators, but not for the West?

There was an article posted a couple of weeks ago that made a very good point.

If the Iraqi people welcome the US liberation and a more democratic Iraq is developed, then the reaction in the Arab world will be positive.

There really isn't any reason that a system similar to Turkey can't be developed in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East. This would be a huge improvement for everyone, not least the poor people who live in these backward, authoritarian states.

But I'll bet Al Jizm will never show the footage of those Iraqis chanting "Bush! Bush! Bush!"

It's pants-shitting time in many Arab capitals this morning.

Don't think that Assad is very comfortable right now.

Al-Jazzero also got a little reminder the other day that its reporting was not helpful at this point and that it was time to stick to the facts.
