This is my problem with the Libertarian Party. Note the quotes from Harry Browne: "it's all the fault of the US".

"There is no doubt that Saddam is a murderous tyrant. But that characteristic does not distinguish him from several dozen other rulers around the world," Carpenter said. "If overthrowing a dictator is sufficient reason for the United States to go to war, one must ask how many other holy crusades are in our future?"

----

How many do you want there to be?

next question.

They show their irrelivancy just as the U.N. Perhaps they need to join the France-German-Russian-UN coalition and see how long they last. All the rats are scurrying around trying to create themselves as newsworthy.

Yes, Browne is a loon. I identify more with Neal Boortz on this issue. With his antiwar and open borders, Browne is too roll-over and surrender for my taste. Otherwise, libertarians have the best vision for where the country should be heading.

The Communist Party U.S.A. also believes the war against Iraq is illegal. "With layer upon layer of misrepresentation, exaggeration, and outright lies, George W. Bush and his war cabinet have recklessly flung our nation into an illegitimate, illegal and unnecessary war," says a statement issued by CPUSA. "The costs and consequences of this will be enormous, for our country and the world. Many lives will be lost. Political instability and right-wing religious fundamentalism will grow," the CPUSA statement continued. "The Korean Peninsula will become more inflamed. The spread of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons will gain momentum. The chances of terrorist 'blowback' will increase."

This is not a prediction by the Communist Party, it's a wish list.

So the Libertarians say, "The pro-war camp has utterly failed to make the case that Iraq poses such a threat."

What utter nonsense, but I'm not surprised. That's exactly what the vast majority of liberals have to say about the War with Iraq. Libertarians agreeing with liberals is nothing new.

"Libertarians, Greens, others take dim view of U.S. action"

From all that I've seen published from these "parties", their "Dim View" of everything is very consistant. There is a good reason why these groups can't muster even the minimal support neccessary to take part in a "National Debate"

WTF Al-Jazeera has more support than these guys

Dim view is an understatement here. I cannot believe the rhetorical excrement coming from these people. They smear the US and Bush like Hitler would. I had a dim view of the LP, but now, sheesh... losers.

Just quick prediction;

Harry Browne's stance on the war will cost him the Libertarian Party nomination in 2004.
As the disclaimer says, his views are not necessarily the view of the Libertarian Party.
I think You will find that the vast majority of Libertarians in fact, do Not Agree with Mr. Harry Browne.

What I [Harry Browne]want is for our government … to quit pretending it knows what's best for other countries..."

Lemme see if I've got this straight, Harry. If the Iraqi people decide that what's best for them is to be free, to no longer suffer under a brutal dictator and to welcome the US as their liberator, you think that's a bad thing? And if the overwhelming majority of Americans support liberating them, you think that's a bad thing also?

"Any U.S. military policy should have the objective of providing security for the lives, liberty and property of the American people in the U.S. against the risk of attack by a foreign power. This objective should be achieved as inexpensively as possible and without undermining the liberties it is designed to protect."

Don't see anything to disagree with here.

How can anyone deny the happiness of the Iraqi people? They have been so horribly oppressed and tortured for so many, many years! My heart is so full of happiness for them today! And my heart is full of pride for our troops and the coalition troops!!!

Well, the war, at least the Iraqi part, is all but over. So war or no-war is pretty much moot now. I am seeing a trend which I find interesting. The growing discussion between Libertarians and Greens over areas of similar interest, especially the decentralization of power. I must admit that I am soooo disillusioned with the Demos and Republos. They all talk the decentralist game--in differing ways and at their convenience, but they are really about supporting each groups' special interests. I can see a potentially new political philosophy emerging which uses the libertarian overstructure of minimalist government at the federal and state levels, but enhances local governments and groups (the Green influence) to make their own choices. This is something that neither of the elites in the 2 big parties want. This means enabling legislation which effectively forces power down to the local level as a start. I would also want it possible for local groups and governments to be able to form coalitions and associations to address the bigger issues affecting their areas. This sounds closer to the Jeffersonian model, albeit in a more urban society, than what the Reublicrats propose.
