Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

"You'll never regret watching history."
You bet. I came of age during Reagan's first term and was a history major/political science minor during those years... I have always had a profound love of history and remember events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall so vividly... It is awe-inspiring to watch what has happened in the last days and know that we are watching history unfold as it happens (we owe a great debt to those embedded journalists)...I told my children "You'll be studying this in college" :). (Of course, hopefully in a good college without flaming liberal professors, LOL.)

Reuters | March 30, 2003
CENTRAL IRAQ (Reuters) - Some U.S. troops said on Sunday they had been told a pause in land advances toward Baghdad could last several weeks. They said they were digging trenches, laying mines around camps and camouflaging vehicles, but that the aerial and artillery bombardment on Iraqi positions in and around Baghdad would continue unabated. "It looks like they are going to be in this position for at least two weeks, the sergeant says," said a Reuters reporter with U.S. forces in central Iraq.

The spot on msnbc that they just ran always brings tears to my eyes.
They used a segment of a speech GW gave a few weeks ago at a military base: "We thank God that Liberty found such brave defenders."

LOL!
I think you all like to do that to me because I admitted I blush easily!

I want a Fox DVD for my kids, but me mostly. There are so many things that brought out such emotions. Today I was emotional watching celebrations in Abril... then Baghdad. Can't wait to get home and see what is up for tonight.
To: Fledermaus
I will have to watch the sun come up in Baghdad tonight. That's past my bedtime but it has to be done.

I was getting my masters in Economics in 1982-1984...was loving it when all the old economists were getting everything wrong.

I foolishly stepped away from the tv for two seconds and missed the blurp with Comb-over. What was his grand statement? I heard the announcer say they were wondering how long the key to his house would work.

Hey, CurlyBill, where did you get your screen name? I remember a character on the movie TOMBSTONE named Curly Bill (played by actor Powers Booth). My cousin worked on that movie. That would be the one...
