Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

It was really GOPrincess who said it first -
"FoxNews is what the American press used to be when the American people counted their blessings instead of criticizing their country."
.. I said to my family the other night, during WWII it was "mainstream" for the U.S. media to tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys. Now it's "right-wing conservative" to do so!!

I replied to her that we are the mainstream.
Rush said something about some of the networks, etc, marginalizing themselves. I don't remember the exact words he used.

I want to be sure THIS gets lots of coverage...
BILL O'REILLY: If you are wrong
and if the United States and they will, this is going to happen goes in, liberates Iraq [with] people in the street, American flags, hugging our soldiers
you gonna apologize to George W. Bush?
JANEANE GARAFALO: I would be so willing to say, "I'm sorry". I hope to God that I can be made a buffoon of, that people will say, "You were wrong. You were a fatalist". And I will go to the White House on my knees on cut glass and say, "Hey, you and Thomas Friedman were right
I shouldn't have doubted you"
Calling Janeane Garafolo...

I have a feeling "GW" is "popping" with pride and joy today! I'm also thinking about President Bush 41. This must be a bittersweet day for him. He honored the UN mandate in 1991 and didn't topple Saddam. If he had continued on to Baghdad, so much bloodshed and death could have been avoided.

The Iraqi people took down a statue of Saddam, cut off its head, and dragged it around town. They had some help from the Marines, but mostly did the deed themselves.

Remember when, at the 2000 Republican convention, used the refrain: "They have not led. We will!".
Yes! And the line that kept recurring to me as the reality of the innocent Iraqi plight was made manifest:
"Help is on the way!"

I think 41 is most preoccupied with the pressures and burdens on his son's shoulders and not looking backwards.
