Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Brett got carried away and told Rummy to hold on. Rummy: "No hold on. You just don't like one-word answers."

Hackworth needs to go on a few radio shows and offer apologies. I couldn't believe it when he went on Hugh Hewitt's show and called -- it was Franks or Myers -- a "moron" and basically said we were clueless in our conduct of this war.
Haven't heard much from ol' Hackworth in the last few days.
To: Mo1
Sounds like Tanks rolling in on the NTV cam I see them rolling. NO sound on pMS.

Rummy slapped down Bret Baier. That was pretty funny.
What was the question that he gave a one word answer to? I missed it.

Imagine what he'd really like to say! LOL. Frankly, I think he should turn Torie Clarke loose on them....they would be quivering masses of Jello in a no time.

What planet are these people from? The food they were bringing in is being found in Saddam's palaces! It wasn't getting to the people! Ahhhh!!!! This makes me so mad! They think trying is more important than doing!
To: Fracas
Bret: Do you believe Hussein is alive?
Rumsfeld: Don't know.
Bret: Do you think Hussein was in that building?
Rumsfeld: I don't know.
Bret: Gen. Myers,...
Rumsfeld: No, you had 2 questions.
Bret: But..
Rumsfeld: No. No. No. You just didn't like my short answers. Next.

LOL!!!!!!!!
.....but Arnett said that the plan was a failure. I'm confused.

They think trying is more important than doing! They're missing out on the heroes' welcome.
To: Lauratealeaf
Rummy slapped down Bret Baier. That was pretty funny. What was the question that he gave a one word answer to? I missed it. Brett asked about the whereabouts of Saddam Hussein. Dead or alive? Rummy just said, "dunno"
To: ken5050
Good point.
Ya know, it ALSO gave OUR TROOPS and our commanders a boost of confidence and assurance.
AFTER that run through Bagdad, THEY knew it wasn't going to be a house-to-house close quarters fight that could kill thousands. THAT knowledge let them change plans and take and hold the airport the next day with "only" the few troops (and there weren't but a couple hundred!) that were stationed there.
But the airport gave us immediate access, re-supply (without vunerable truck convoys, and a rescue point for choppers and damaged aircraft. Kinda of like taking Iwo Jima in the Pacific from the Japanese: instead of their fighters taking off while our bombers were in route, our bombers could land and save their crews.
The first B-29's actually landed in Iwo BEFORE the Japanese were defeated. By war's end, I understand MORE B-29 crews had landed under emergency conditions at Iwo than Marines had been lost figting for it.

...and where's Lara "Ligan" Logan?

Correction: I think that last quote was, "you don't like one word answers"..
