Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

One of the TV scenes that got to me the most was right after the statue toppled, and one of the celebratory Iraqis could be glimpsed kissing one of our helmeted soldiers on the cheek... What a moment.
When I got up and saw what was happening I called a couple family members...woke my mother up (7:15 Pacific) and said "Get up and turn on your TV and watch history!!"
To: Krodg
Wow! Look at that gorgeous soldier on our CBS BagCam!

a few people in Baghdad had the old Iraqi flag, The one without the writing about Saddam on it. Glad to see the old flag in Baghdad, they must have kept it hidden.Thank you for sharing that. Courageous Iraqis, hiding the forbidden flag all those years!

Thank you all for the updates, recaps, opinions and shared patriotism. I am so sad that there are people who are considered Americans that don't feel pride in their country, cannot experience the thrill of patriotism, and do not support the brave men and women who protect our freedoms. They are missing so much - like goose bumps when the National Anthem is played.
My family and I are heading to the beach for Spring Break this afternoon (teenagers in Panama City Beach, uggh!) and you will all be missed. I'm so glad I was able to see the toppling of Saddam's statue and the happiness of the Iraqi people. My prayers are with our leaders, our troops, their families, and all of you.
Thank you again for allowing me to share this opportunity with you.
To: An.American.Expatriate
Did anyone see that US hating MORON from the Brookings Institution who claimed that there would be massive American casualties is on CNN claiming that he predicted the fall would be just like this. That hypocrite!
To: Sir_Ed
Thank you, Sir Ed. Romanians and the Italians are both enjoying this day. (^:

"No; I work in hell. Again, I think we work in the same office. Mr. Chicken up on MSNBC cam"
At least hell allows you to access the cam. I'm in Federal Government purgatory... firewalls up the wazoo. Cut off except for FR... wait, that's all I need!
