Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

MSNBC cam. Hello, this is Richard. Tank seems to be going up to the statue now.
To: GOPyouth
Burning building.... oh, I guess the tank is just being used as step ladder.... "no it is NOT a mosque burning"... we don't burn mosques. Sometimes I think we should, but we don't, because we are Americans and we do things differently. I cannot express how proud I am at this moment....

I can't believe that the DU crowd, much of the media, Europe, and the middle east are depressed today...
Not just depressed, but angry!

Jeez this is about to be a really ugly day!!
Our regular weekly morning long sales meeting has just been temporarily postphoned so that we all can go into our boss's office to watch "history being made"! Our boss just called from his car phone so that he could let us know it is happening and to tell her it was okay to postphone so we all could go watch. I am so incredibly sick of this shit!!!
This is 'Clarence' at the other site, and he considers this Iraqi Liberation Day ugly.
Sickening, but 'know thine enemy.'

Burning building on TV looks like that one at the top left of the CBS BagCam...behind the mosque.

Isn't that where Martin Savidge from CNN was?

Being American is more then just your address. It's a state of mind and a feeling in your heart and soul. Everyone watching this amazing moment around the world and rejoicing because liberty is prevailing is an American.

Bring in the M-1 with a HESH round.I don't think we have those rounds. We'll have to ask the Brits to loan us a Challenger 2, 'less'n it's the same chambering.
Sky News Bag Cam, 1022 EDT - Russia is helping Saddam Hussein flee Baghdad. Russian Ambassador & staff left Baghdad and were shot at several days ago. Russian Embassy in west part of capital. Russian gov't "neither confirms nor denies these reports."
Putin's in trouble...

The high rise on fire... a good view of the Iraqi crowd from there. Hope it isn't the last desperate gasp of a dying regime at work.

This scene in Paradise Square is a METAPHOR FOR THIS WHOLE SITUATION. The Iraqis trying, futily, to "TAKE DOWN" Saddam. Us, waiting, waiting, waiting, patiently looking on....we're going to have to end up doing it ourselves in the end.

..there's a government building on fire in Baghdad...I guess in a country like that they're ALL government buildings.
Until today, that is.

Anyone else think Baghdad looks a lot like Paris? (I don't mean the liberation part..I mean the city itself.) It looks a lot more beautiful today.
