Boston police spokeswoman Mariellen Burns said police were called to the hospital at 10:09 a.m. with a report of shots fired.

This is my first post...I'm a long-time lurker. Didn't see this anywhere and was FreeRepublic-deprived of all of your opinions!

Two shot and killed at Mass. General Hospital When I first saw the title, I thought that HMOs are sure giving out cheap care these days.

I saw the news at noon and thought the same thing! I thought some loony had gone berserk inside MGH. So far they've only given the cardiologist's info, but the woman's info hasn't been released yet. I've heard, though, that she hasn't worked there long at MGH.

Dr. Brian McGovern and an unidentified woman who worked at the hospital were taken to the emergency room, but both were pronounced dead. And...
"He was an outgoing and friendly person. He had a nice Irish brogue and a twinkle in his eye,"
Hmmm...

(posted: April 8th, 5:15pm) A shooting at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston today leaves two people dead and one has a local connection. Brian McGovern worked at Saint Peter's Hospital and had a number of local patients.
Investigators say it may have been a murder-suicide. Police say a weapon was found in the office and they do not believe an assailant is at large.
Stay tuned with NEWS10 and wten.com for all of the latest information as it becomes available.

I've been wondering all day. I feel bad that I at first thought it was Dr. McGovern, for many reasons. Automatically thinking a guy would commit murder/suicide before I get all the facts, and the guy is an Irishman (my grandmother was Irish), and I took my screen name from an Irish dictionary while I've been trying to learn Irish. I find it hard to believe that MGH, except for the cardiology dept, went on as business as usual today.

BTW...my mother, who is godhelpus, showed me the way to FreeRepublic. We are going to be donating for the first time! We are so addicted to this website! My mother gets upset if the internet goes out at 2AM because she can't see what they're saying on FR!

Clearly they need more gun control in Taxachusetts They're not seeking any suspects. Obviuosly this was an evil gun, probably from out-of-state, acting unilaterally.

They came to that conclusion right away, that they weren't looking for any suspects, but they wouldn't admit that it was a "murder-suicide" situation.
My boss said something happend at MGH a few years ago, perhaps a knifing of some sort? I tried to do a google search but didn't come up with anything.

I know...I'm so sick of reading such and such SUV was involved in....blah blah blah. It's so ridiculous and irrelevent! But, they feel it's important to report that an SUV was involved in the news for some reason.

I'm going to take a wild guess...well, two wild guesses..., based on facts gleaned from the article, as well as my own imagination. Somebody let me know if I turn out to be right.
1. The two were having an affair. The doctor refused to leave his wife, and in a jealous "if I can't have you no one can" rage, the woman shot him and then herself.
2. The two were having an affair. The doctor refused to leave his wife, and the situation escalated to "Fatal Attraction" proportions and he shot her in a fit of rage, then realized what he had done and turned the gun on himself.

She says she's godhelpus. She posted a couple of times when we had AOL, but then we went broadband (Charter Communications). She has tried to post since then, but for some reason her old email keeps coming up and preventing her from posting. She is a rabid republican! She has taught her children well! I hope she sees this :)

That's what it looks like, but it's possible that she committed the crime. We'll find out soon enough. I thought immediately that the man was to blame, but I know of at least one man who has been victimized by a woman. It is possible that the woman committed this atrocity. But as far as I know, it hasn't been reported yet.
