I think we got him last night. The Pentagon released that SUPER SECRET INFO about the Jaguar phone that they had been using to track him. They would not have released that info unless they were 100% sure they got him.

And Tom Daschle is "deeply saddened" either way.

I wouldn'g think MI6 or anyone would tell much to the BBC. I read earlier that even the British sailors have asked that the channel be changed...

He's probably not. If he were dead, then there'd near certainly be a good deal of Iraqi communications chatter to that effect. We would not be hearing these ambiguous or ambivalent sort of statements from our side...

Not only is Saddam dead, but so is Uday, Qusay, Saddam lookalikes #1-4, red-headed commander (red-headed Arab, as rare as the white cockroach) Tariq Aziz, and for good measure, Chemical Ali.
Next up, Baghdad Bob.

600 YEARS OF BBC ANTI-BRITISH BIAS REVEALED-- Special Iconoclast Report from WILLIAM GRIM
(London) -- Using documents obtained through an Official Secrets Act waiver granted by the British High Court, this reporter has uncovered evidence of a shocking pattern of anti-British bias that has existed at the British Broadcasting Service (BBC) for the past six centuries. Direct from secret government archives, we present excerpts taken verbatim from transcripts of BBC war reportage since the Late Medieval Period:
Battle of Agincourt (1415) -- "This is London calling. Stung by the deaths of 14 British soldiers, while only inflicting 15,000 deaths on the elite French fusiliers, the armed forces of England, led by the inexperienced King Henry V, have suffered a serious setback in the Hundred Years War. The French soldiers have proven to be much more resilient in battle than King Henry's top military advisor, Sir John Falstaff, originally thought. The British public is becoming increasingly impatient with the slow pace of the Hundred Years War, which now seems destined to last well into its 101st year."
Battle of the Spanish Armada (1588) -- "This is London calling. Britain's Navy was caught unprepared when the elite Spanish Armada attacked the coast of England and only lost 497 Spanish ships while causing considerable damage to two British cod-fishing boats and three dinghies. Sir Francis Drake, Commander-in-Chief of the British Navy, is currently under investigation for continuing with his game of tennis when he was informed of the Armada's attack. Military analysts say that Britain's astounding naval defeat is sure to guarantee Spanish domination of the New World for the next 500 years. Public opinion polls show a growing number of British citizens desiring Queen Elizabeth to resign."
D-Day (June 6, 1944) -- "This is London calling. American, British and Canadian forces staged a large amphibious landing today on the coast of Normandy only to sustain heavy casualties inflicted by the elite SS forces of Germany. It now looks like the long-anticipated invasion of Fortress Europa will take longer than a week to conclude and the outcome is anyone's guess. General Patton's 3rd Army is only making 20 miles a day progress into enemy territory and is encountering fierce resistance from the elite Hitler Youth Corps. German government officials have protested to the Red Cross and the League of Nations that the Allied bombing campaign is harming civilians and is making it difficult to evacuate Jews to safer locations, like Dachau and Auschwitz"................

Saddam targeted in Baghdad bombing attack By Jack Kelley, USA TODAY KUWAIT CITY U.S. warplanes destroyed a Baghdad home where Saddam Hussein and 20 members of his ruling party, including at least one of his sons, were said to be meeting Monday in a move to decapitate the besieged regime.

Rescuers examine rubble of the building in Baghdad's Mansur neighborhood where Saddam Hussein was believed to be meeting. Karim Shib, AFP
Senior intelligence and administration sources said a B-1 bomber dropped four 2,000-pound, satellite-guided bombs on the home in the Mansur neighborhood of western Baghdad. At least one of Saddam's sons and as many as 30 members of his ruling Baath Party were believed to be meeting with him at the time.
Mansur is an upscale area where many of the regime's wealthy members live. It also is the neighborhood where only days ago, Saddam mingled with a crowd in a show of defiance against the United States and its allies.
The "bunker-buster" bombs reduced the home to rubble. Although there was a bunker under the building, there is "a very good chance" Saddam might be dead, a senior intelligence source said. Saddam also was personally targeted by an airstrike on March 19, the first night of the war, but it has been unclear if he had been killed or injured in that attack.
The attack came on a day when fighting raged in the Iraqi capital. U.S. tanks and soldiers stood their ground following a dramatic dawn raid intended to show the Iraqi people that Saddam's regime was in its last days. More than 70 tanks and 60 Bradley tank-like vehicles, accompanied by about 4,000 troops from the 3rd Infantry Division, fought their way to the heart of Baghdad. While Army units circled from the west, Marines entered the city from the south across a bridge over a Tigris River tributary. Troops also took a third palace near the city's airport.
Early today, U.S. tanks, supported by attack aircraft, moved from the west onto a Tigris River bridge and fired toward the eastern, downtown area.
The order for the strike on the complex in Mansur came after U.S. military officials received what they termed reliable tips from three spies in Baghdad, as well as satellite intercepts of communications, that the meeting was underway. Those reports indicated that Saddam, his son Qusay and other top members of the regime were there.
CIA paramilitaries and Delta Force commandos tracked Saddam using his British-made communication system known as "Jaguar," senior U.S. intelligence officials say. The system, sold by Britain to Iraq during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, encrypted, or scrambled, Saddam's voice. But U.S. intelligence officials say they recently cracked the code.
The men were discussing how to flee the city when the bombs hit the home and a restaurant attached to it, the officials said.
The officials cautioned that the bunker underneath the house and restaurant may have been connected to other bunkers through a series of underground tunnels. Officials say Saddam may have fled through the tunnels seconds before the bombs hit.
U.S. intelligence had the home under surveillance for several days. CIA paramilitaries and Delta Force commandos had been close to killing Saddam three or four times in the past several days, according to a source. At 9 a.m. Monday, they became "very confident" that the Iraqi leader and at least one of his sons were in the home. At 3 p.m., the B-1 dropped the bombs, the source said.
One source said intelligence officials believe that Saddam's other son, Uday, was killed in the March 19 airstrike.
U.S. officials say they hope to inspect the site of the latest attack today to see whether they can locate any remains of Saddam.

You're probably right, he's dead, but for the average Iraqi, he's still alive. That makes a lot of difference in when this war ends.
