Fletcher defends his campaign at debate: Republican candidates spar over running mate

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- U.S. Rep. Ernie Fletcher of Lexington defended his first choice of a running mate -- and state Rep. Steve Nunn defended pressing the issue -- as the four Republican candidates for governor debated last night on Kentucky Educational Television.

Despite the flap over the lt. gov. candidate, I still see Fletcher prevailing in the primary, then losing to Attorney General Chandler in November. If so, Fletcher would be the ninth consecutive KY Republcian to fall to a Democrat in the gubernatorial general election.
