Bullsh*t. They did not want Government attempting to establish any religion. But they also knew, and stated in so many words, that Laws without religion-based morals were useless, for without moral honor, why would any honor the Laws passed by Government?

America is a Christian Nation, was founded as a Christian nation, and suffers the tragedies we see today (crack babies, child pornography, abortion clinics, 9-11, etc.) as a direct result of turning our backs on God.

People ask, "Where was God on 9-11?!!"

Well, He was right where you left Him. Suck it up.

America is a Christian Nation, was founded as a Christian nation,
Sure wasn't. Even the devoutly Christian Luther Martin, a delegate to the Convention, would disagree:

The part of the system, which provides that no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States, was adopted by a great majority of the convention, and without much debate,--however, there were some members so unfashionable as to think that a belief of the existence of a Deity, and of a state of future rewards and punishments would be some security for the good conduct of our rulers, and that in a Christian country it would be at least decent to hold out some distinction between the professors of Christianity and downright infidelity or paganism.

Excluding the highly dubious and easily refuted example of the date, nowhere in the Constitution is God, Jesus Christ, or the Bible recognized. These were precise men who wrote a precise document. Had they meant for America to be a "Christian Nation", don't you think they might have said so?
