Bush: 'We are committed to the Road Map'

President George W. Bush said Tuesday that the US and Britain "are committed to the Road Map toward peace."

Speaking at a joint news conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland, Bush added: "Now this process must be carried forward."

Moments earlier Blair also reaffirmed Britain's commitment to the plan, which calls for achieving Palestinian statehood by 2005.

"It's a hopeful time. I believe we can make progress," Bush said.

Bush further said he is pleased with the designated Palestinian premier Mahmoud Abbas.

So then wouldn't that fix the problem? If the "terroritories" were recognized for what they are, Israel. These "refugees" would become Israeli citizens and then that would be that. Too simple? I guess it would be since that would ruin the Arab/Islamofacist/Nazi's idea of driving Israel into the sea. If Israel was able to keep the land it won fair and square in the '67 war and the refugees were actually Israeli citizens....then there would be no need for the PLO or Arafat the Egyptian and also the Arabs would not have their "Palestinians" to use as pawns in their actual plans.

I guess that too simple. The truth normally is.

We might have a religious moral grounds but we do not punish those that dont have the same belief because they might not agree with those beliefs.

The 3 million Arabs in the West Bank are not without political power. They have a Legislature, they have a president, Israel has built them an infrastructure.

The PA rules over 98% of Gaza and the West Bank right now... Right now!

So the 3 million non-citizens inside the territory have all the rights and political power the PNC gives them, which means apartheid is not happening in the territories.

Americans are just as "selfish" and can be swamped by high birthrate Mexicans especially in our SW states. 8 children per family is the norm in Gaza which is very overcrowded to start with. Maybe you like living in rabbit warrens.

Maybe resettlement is the solution. We have millions of acres of federal land in the United States. For example, there are only 2 million people in the entire state of Nevada. There are 5 million Jewish Israelis. Do you think the Israelis would consider resettling voluntarily in the U.S.? If they won't resettle voluntarily, should we consider forced resettlement?

Is something like this your alternative to President Bush's Road Map?

No... but you have seemed to forgotten why Israel has the land.

UN Resolution 242 says that Israel will have administration rights over the land until 1) all Arab belligerncy against Israel has ceased... 2) then the Arabs and Israel will sit down and discuss borders and a Palestinian state.

Israel has returned 91% of the territory to Egypt in 1979. They offered Egypt Gaza but Sadat said "no thank you."

As for Arab belligerency... do you believe it has stopped?

Even Oslo, Oslo II, Hebron Accords, Wye River Accords, Camp David Accords could not stop it.

Do not even suggest that Israel is keeping the Palestinians locked up in a virtual concentration camp. Put the blame where it belongs. On Arafat and his gang of thugs...who are working for the destruction of Israel.

Israel doesn't want to be a permanent overseer. But, they do not want a terrorist state on their border.

UN Resolution 242 was clear... first 1 then 2. One has never happened. Therefore, Israel keeps the only bargaining chip she has to get the Arabs to cease their plans for genocide. The land.

I don't think he is taking about the soldiers, but the State Department who knew what Hitler was doing to the Jews (and not just to the Jews) and didn't even lodge a protest.

Neither is a reasonable alternative, in my view. That's why I believe we should stop considering impossible alternatives such as resettlement and deal with the way the world is, not how we would like it to be. The Road Map is our best hope of moving forward, in my opinion.

Have the Israelis ever accepted Nevada as their homeland?

Yet, the "palestinians" did accept Jordan as exactly that. The "Road Map" rewards them for breaking their word and murdering Jews. Again.

And you expect their behavior to change?

How, exactly, is the "Road Map" a recycle of the stupendous Oslo failure, a "step forward"? How will Israel achieve security through the "Road Map"? My opinion is that the terror will continue as it always has.

No, I don't post as if the UN is something. But, UN Resolution 242 was put together by the American and British... and rammed through the UN...

It is the road map... except...

Washington and London understood what danger Israel was in. That is why they said that Arab belligerency must stop first.

The Road Map changes that. Now, the opposite is happening. Washington and London seem to have forgotten that danger. The Road Map says 5 years no matter what.

If you will go back and re-read my posts, you will see that I have great faith in this President. His 6/24 speech emphasizes 242 and the stop to all terror. I am encouraged that Arafat is not even on his radar screen.

The argument on this thread has been that Israel should just accept the Road Map (mostly because we pay them aid, and they should dance to our tune because of it) ad hoc.

Absolutely not. If there is not peace, the fault does not lie with Israel. The fault lies with the thugs and murderers that run the PA.

Look at "the way the world is:"

Arabs murder Jews until both need a breather, and then the Jews come in good faith to the bargaining table, only to be betrayed and murdered again by their "peace partners."

The Road Map is definitely right in line with that paradigm.
