Stymied by the Miguel Estrada filibuster, Senate Republicans on Monday moved to another of President Bush's pro-life judicial nominees, Texas Supreme Court Justice Priscilla Owen.
Pro-life senators want a quick confirmation vote on Owen, who is nominated for a seat on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

I wont even bother asking my 2 senators to do the right thing. It would be a waste of time, since I live in The Socialist Republic of New York, and am stuck with Chuckie and Hitlery. The most that I can hope for is that President Bush will have long enough coattails to help defeat Schumer in 04. In the meantime, I hope that our president takes his case directly to the American public. His high popularity can be used to force some rats into stopping their obstruction of the US Constituion.

Since I'm relatively new to this site, I have a couple of questions. (1) just what is a "ping list", and (2) what do you folks mean when you "bump"?

Your right. You have as much odds with Chuckie and Hitlery voting the right way as getting Saddam & sons to do so!

That Democratic filibuster against Miguel Estrada's nomination to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has lasted for more than two months. Question: How does a "filibuster" work? Does it shut down all debate on any issue before the Senate, or does it merely stall debate on a particular issue, in the case the nomination of Mr. Estrada? Has the Senate been held hostage by this filibuster for the past two months, or can it still move forward with other business?

A true fillibuster is when a group of Senators talk nonstop, 24/7. What we have now is a partial filibuster, in which other bills can be debated and even voted on, and the Senate can close shop for the night or even go on recess. I personally think that we should force the rats into going into a full fillibuster. This would put their obstructionism on full public display. Most Americans don't even realize what's going on, but a work stoppage would get their attention, and even CNN and the major networks wont be able to ignore it.

BUMP or BTTT (bump to the top) just puts the article back at the top of circulation. It is basically a way to keep it in front of people. For more info cut and paste this in your browser. Free Republic Glossary for newcomers will explain just about everything.

Debate on an issue in the House (of representatives) is limited & a certain time frame is decided, and there is a discussion/debate.
There are no time limits on the discussion/debate in the Senate.
As long as a Senator holds the "floor", he/she can speak, at great length, concerning the topic at hand, growing flowers, their children and grandchildren, phases of the moon, etc... well, You get it..
Filibuster, or holding the floor to stall a vote on legislation, is a time honored tradition in the Senate, and has been used by both sides, Liberal and Conservative.
The present "filibuster" on Miguel Estrada has been of the "civilized" variety, with the Republicans allowing debate on the floor to take place during "business" hours, and not demanding that the floor be continually held, 24 hours a day.
Such tactics have been used in the past to force the "death" of a filibuster and bring an issue to a vote.
Go out and rent the video, "Mr Smith goes to Washington", and You will see the filibuster in action.
It's an old movie classic.

Bump is a white folks dance:

It's also something Colgate University volleyball players Meghaan Walsh and Becca Sadowsky do when they're not busy learning how to spell their names:

Bumping keeps your post near the top of the list, when you log on and go to the news/activism section you will have the opportunity to read hundreds of posts which are in chronological order according to the time one last commented on a thread, if nobody responds to your thread, then your thread will be at the bottom of the heap and only those pinged will read it unless someone specifically does a search for the topic of your thread.
When someone thanks you for the ping, that, in essence, is a bump since they posted and put the thread to the top.
I think at the present time, most freepers read the threads about the war than anything else.

Senate Is to Advise And Consent, Not Obstruct and Delay The Framers Envisioned A Narrow Role for The Senate in The Confirmation Process.
Do the Senate Rules, as applied to the confirmation process, vilolate the Constitution?
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
