NAIROBI, Kenya -- More than 3 million people have died during Congo's civil war, the vast majority from malnutrition and disease, a relief organization said Tuesday.
The International Rescue Committee said in a report that at least 85 percent of the 3.3 million deaths were from easily treatable diseases and malnutrition.

Where was the UN? They worry when the US locks up some terrorists, and sit by when millions die in Congo?
And where are Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton?

And where are Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? What color are the victims, how much did they have to leave to various "charity" organizations, what large corporation can be blamed, is there a huge liberal press base there? Let's answer these questions first then we might can figure out where they were.

(snip from article)
A U.N. official dealing with Africa said an accurate account of the number of dead is impossible, but the toll of two million had been widely accepted. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity.
* My note : Well, the UN is still in the counting stage. It will remain there for at least 12 more years...
THE IRC said the humanitarian disaster has been caused in part by the forced displacement of people fleeing fighting and the collapse of the country's health system.
* My note : While people die of malnutrition, the UN is worried about refridgerators and what are in the region "luxury goods" being looted from its offices in Basra
The Congo war began in August 1998 and at one point drew in armies from six other African nations.
* My note: Did the UN bother to condemn these invasions? How about France and Germnay and Belgium? Did they pass 17 resolutions on the matter?
But the rescue committee said there grounds for hope because deaths from violence apparently had dropped by as much as 90 percent since a survey carried out in 2001. (/snip)
* My note : <sarcasm>Ah, now that's hopeful... international aid organizations must be relieved to know that people are dying from disease and malnutrition, which are so much better than icky violence.</sarcasm>

Where were they when Rwanda erupted? Cambodia? Uganda? What about North Korea? Where have they ever been? Just another organization to line pockets with someone elses money while pretending to do good.

Why is nobody at DU bleating about this? Apparently they don't care about Africans anymore than the UN does.

I heard someone say, once, that the best thing they could do for those people is give each of them a machine gun. Tied on the trigger guard would be a little tag that said "you are free now."
To: yonif
This is the same UN that wants to step in once the fighting stops in Iraq and do a great job of managing the reconstruction. But they haven't managed anything else very well.
To: PistolPaknMama
Yes. Zimbabwe. Let us hear the UN speaking out about this. Let us see the UN stepping in and doing something.
