Well one way would be to gather DNA samples from clothing/personal artifacts(combs, etc.) gathered at his palaces, find one that keeps reappearing, and test the remains against it. (Since we didn't have any of his DNA at the beginning of the war.)

So they just look for little crisps of human flesh and test them all? I mean there want be diddly squat to find, if you will pardon the reference.
