President Bush, right, is greeted by British Prime Minister Tony Blair at Hillsborough Castle, Monday, April 7, 2003 in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland. Bush and Blair are grappling with three of the world's toughest conflicts in Bush's 19-hour visit to Northern Ireland, discussing war and rebuilding in Iraq while trying to revive peace efforts in Northern Ireland and the Middle East. (1) Oh to be a fly on the wall as Tony and Colin try to convince George to let the UN back in the game.
(2) Re Northern Ireland: I thought Bill Clinton and George Mitchell solved the problem. Isn't that one of the biggest achievements in Clinton's legacy scrapbook?! [wink]
(3) Once the dust settles after the Iraq War, perhaps progress can at last be made on the Israeli-Palestinian issue. We can only hope.

I can't think of a caption, but that's a great picture. It shows true friendship.

Tony: "George, you've saved my legacy. How can I possibly thank you, old boy?"
George: "Arrest Robert Fisk, and pull the plug on BBC World Service."

It sure does seem to show a genuine bond of affection between the two men. It's nice to see. I just hope Tony doesn't push too hard on letting the UN back in the game.

Bush ... I loved the way your tank pulled that stupid statue down.
Blair ... Yea it was great, and you should see their faces when the pipers get started!
Bush ... BTW how would you feel about moving Syria ahead of Iran?
Blair ... Hell if it makes Helen Thomas mad, lets do it! F^&* her!

Nod me too
the UN can organise humanitarian aid, its all they are good for.
Us and UK troops did the work (and aussies), therefore
The UN should not expect heavy authority.
I hope tony doesnt stupidly try to "heal rifts". The eu are far weather friends only. He should know that now
And yes, it looks like a good friendship has been struck up.
The strongest i remember is reagan and thatcher..anyone else ld enough to remember that?

The strongest i remember is reagan and thatcher..anyone else ld enough to remember that?Well, of course I'm not old enough to remember that. My grandparents told me about it, yes, that's right! :)
The Iron Lady and Reagan were a great pair, they were both cut from the same cloth, same values, you name it. It was a wonderful time in history that saw the two of them together.

Re: 'getting back into the UN game...'
My read of this is that Blair and Bush are experiencing a brief moment of mutual bliss, after having taken down the UN too many pegs to count.
Again, we misunderestimate.
Bush's goal all along was to render the UN like teats on a nun.

Nod thatcher was a leader
she transformed the uk from a dosshole to a successful country. And performed europes last unilateral military action (falklands). During that war the americans offered much aid in intelligence which hasnt been forgotten
It was europe that killed her, she was violently opposed to closer euro ties.
Ahhh good times in those days tho i was young. Lets hope tone doesnt balls it up trying to make up with euro land
