i cant tell if they are saying that the corpse was infected and was conitnuing to give off virus while dead?

Sounds like it. After all, to spread disease during a siege in the Medieval ages they used to hurl the bodies of plaque victims via catapult over the walls of castles. Simple contact would spread it, although I will leave the details of contact to the imagination.

Nasty, but an effective, if primitive means of bio-warfare.

The decision to classify the April 1 death as SARS-related came after several members of the family came down with the disease.

It sounds as if the relatives who contracted it from the deceased were the possible carriers.
