It's Time for our Second Quarter FReepathon

John and Tami negotiated a new contract with our bandwidth supplier and got our bill lowered a couple thousand per month! Our monthly expenses are now totalling just under $20,000, so we're setting the target for this Freepathon at $60,000. We have approximately $18,000 (and growing) per quarter coming from our monthly donors so we will only need to raise a little over $40,000 this time. Hopefully, we can do this in a week to ten days.

We went over the goal last quarter and we used part of the extra money to purchase and install two new servers. We now have a total of five servers running Free Republic. John can post the details, but basically, we have two servers being used as web servers, two as database servers and one for the search engine. There may be some sharing and overlapping of duties, but that's the general configuration.

John also found a way to compress the files before serving them so we are able to effectively move 20mbs of data through our 10mbs line. In other words, we've doubled our capacity and halved our bandwidth cost!

(Just in time too! We hit the 10mps X 2 capacity a few times during the peak periods of the last couple of weeks).

And finally, we've added two new high capacity disk drives (I believe they're 72 gigabytes each) and just as soon as John gets the upload and file management programs ready to go, we'll be able to offer our donors directory space on their accounts to upload pictures, graphics, and music files, etc. I believe this is going to be a very popular feature!

I became a member of FR in September of 2001 after a very unpleasent stint with the message board of one of our state's major newspapers.

I used this message board to address issues and make the case for our current President.

Unfortunately, some X42 butt-kissing whore responded with name calling and accused me of wasting bandwidth. Apparently, she didn't have a problem with the Gorebots using the forum but she had a problem with me countering this BS and CF and making the case for Bush.

Needless to say this resulted in an exchange of profanity and I was determined I just wasn't going to put up with this B.S. and C.F. so I peppered the message board with foul language and insults and called this whore a bunch of names and all sorts of stuff. It pretty much reached the point where I almost had a stroke and gave up.

That message board is no longer in existence. The newspaper which put up this message board on it's website worked with a T.V. station to start a new and different message board but it degenerated into a profanity exchange and was shut down.

As you can see, we are in a battle for our very existence in our own communities. There are those amongest us who are actully seeking to have us declared nuisances simply because of our political and religious ideas and are seeking to have a goverment similar to Saddam put in place here. That is why this forum is so vial to our very eixstence.

There have been a number of Bill Clinton butt kissers who have recently tried to sign on to this forum and missuse it to advance what they know is an enourmously harmful political agenda. The ad-mons have done a very good job in watching for these troublemakers and zotting htem when it has been needed.

We've also had sham freepers who have attempted to play ad-mon and try to go after some freepers who have placed articles inplaces like "your opinion-questions". I realize this is a waste of bandwidth but these articles after all are opinions and are where they should be. If you don't want to read those articles, don't click on them.

I make particular mention of a couple of bozos, (I'm sure they know who they are)who somehow seem to feel the need to police these message boards and decide who should or shouldn't have any say here. This, however is Jimrob's place and it is he, not anybody else who has a say here.

As I've said time and time again this a forum for conservatives to express their opinions on the issues of the day. This is NOT a forum for liberals, progressives or moderates to come in and advertise their own special political agenda or challenge conservatives on these things. If you want to do those things, you do so at DU, NOT here on this forum.

So with that, we urge everyone to do all you can to keep this place going. If you can donate, please do so. If you can't, keep these threads bumped.

It's up to each and everyone of us to keep this safe haven for conservatives up and running and with your help, that will happen.
