Hillary! rushed to sign the deal because it would have been a Senate ethics violation to take the money after she was sworn into the Senate.

However, wouldn't it also be an ethics violation to be in breech of contract while being a sitting Senator? Hillary! owes the publishers the book or the money back. Doesn't she have to do something or face other Senate ethics violations (okay, okay, you can stop rolling on the floor laughing now).

I think the brunt of Wright's problem was that he sold the book in lots of 1,000 at $10/copy (or something like that), plus his 55% "royalty."

The really displays the sheer arrogance of this liar. They could have used a ghost writer to write ANYTHING just to make the deal LOOK legitimate. They don't even try to make the book look real.

Let's face it, if she writes anything that contradicts her absense of memory she will have trouble with perjury to the grand jury.

My sentiment is that anything written about Hillary Clinton by Hillary Clinton (or at least approved) will be even more fanciful than the Iraqi Ministry of Information.

But how many years can you carry over the loss. It is my understanding you can carry over losses over multiple years.

"She has another ghostwriter?"

Vincent Foster is back?
Is Elenor Rosevelt helping her?

Hilary is used to working with the dead.

Hillary will publish her book at the time it best supports her run for the presidency. Now is not the right time.

I think you raise a valid point.

Here's how it could be working:

During a time of flush economic confidence, Viacom/Miramax decide to help Hillary with her Gift Registry to the tune of eight million.

Turns out, they didn't give it to her in one lump sum, but she has enjoyed (and likely spent) almost three million. Now she expects the rest of her bribe. A deal's a deal.

She starts making demands...and the economy has changed. Things are tougher, and the generous feeling have faded on the part of the bribe-er. Hillary wants her promised five million, of the original eight.

So Simon and Schuster leaks an embarrassing fact...they're shocked, just shocked that Hillary hasn't come up with her tome of deathless prose. This will make Hillary back off her demands. She is beginning to figure out she isn't getting her five million. I'm sure she'll come up with a piece of drek to satisfy the original "contract." She spends money quite prodigiously, and three mil after taxes does not support her lifestyle for long. I guess Bill could chip in a little...

S and S would like to keep its five million. But it will eventually have to fork it over.

She'll turn in some type of manuscript to cover her arse and the heads of the company. If the officers of the book company don't at least make some attempts to get something in return for this poor investment, they could be facing a stockholder's suit against them. Perhaps some angry group of stockholders will do so anyway.

I think she'll delay it until she's ready to run, so she can use it to leverage media access.

But how many years can you carry over the loss. It is my understanding you can carry over losses over multiple years.

You can carry the loss until you use it. But when you use it, it still is only a $750,000 tax savings.

In other words say you break even this year except for the $2.5 million payment. Therefore, you have a $2.5 million loss and owe no taxes. So you carry the $2.5 million loss over to next year. Next year you make $3.0 million but you have a loss carryover of $2.5 million from the prior year, so you only have to pay taxes on $0.5 million instead of $3,000,000, your savings is 30% times $2.5 million. It's still only a $750,000 tax savings.

And you would always rather have the $2.5 million you paid to Hillary and pay the $750k of taxes.

(Unless of course, it's a way of laundering a bribe as has been insinuated by others) Then instead of being out $2.5 million in bribes and probably looking at jail time. You are out only $1.75 million after taxes and home scott free.

Ann Coulter laid it out in her book "Slander": the lefty publishers contantly give out these deals hoping the glowing reviews from the New York Time's Book section will convince enough post-straddlers to actually buy a copy. They are eternally puzzled as to why this never works.
Meanwhile Regnery Press happily pays out earned royalties to conservative writers who inexplicably ride high on the Best Seller lists without the blessings of the New York Times' reviewers.
The next morning the lefty publishers wake up with a fresh case of amnesia and do it all over again.
Thank you Ann & Regnery Press. Free market Rules!

I wouldn't think Simon & Schuster would even let Hitlery get away with it; unless they need a big writeoff or better; a big favor.

So what is the normal penalty for signing a contract, collecting payment and never providing the service? Isn't that theft in the real world?

In the real world, lying under oath is perjury; for the 'toons, it's "contempt of court", no jail time, and your library donors pick up the tab.

Chapter One of the new book will be titled, "Why Danny Williams looks more like Bill than Chelsea does."
