From the article:

Ryder, sentenced on December 6, 2002 for shoplifting from Saks Fifth Avenue, had to pay $10,000 in fines and restitution and became owner of the property.

If she's really the owner of the syuff, I deny the judge's authority to decide on what she can do with it.

What's her problem? She doesn't want to face the evidence of her guilt everyday? Or maybe her ill-gotten gains aren't considered today's style, hmn?

I suggest a third scenario.

The thrill of owning them wasn't as great as the thrill of stealing them. Thus, her plans to auction them are only half of the story.

Once she sells them on eBay, she'll know the buyers' addresses. She's going to visit the buyers, excuse herself to use their bathroom, and steal the clothes back.

I am also guilty of reacting to story headlines without reading the body of the article. We all do it from time to time.
