Picking on Ed Asner is like picking on kids who rode the short bus to school. I will never forget when I was 12 or 13 years old, and reading the book of lists. They had asked Asner what laws he would enact if he was president (he probably wanted to be Dictator), one said everyone would be guaranteed a living, work would strictly for the enjoyment of working. I remember thinking, well who would be the garbage men, and ditch diggers. The sorry thing is this mental midget believes it.

This is what parents pay $25,000 a year for ??? They pay Tuition/Room & Board so their kids can be brain washed by the faculty and some fat washed up actor spew their anti American views on campus.

Wah! Don't pick on me I'm just an actor. I should be able to say anything I like and not be held responsible. I'm nobody that should be blamed for anything......and on and on and on! That's all they can do is run their
mouths@!

I remember thinking, well who would be the garbage men, and ditch diggers. Yeah, Asner's little wish there probably sounds good to college freshmen taking their first Poli Sci class. But it is clearly crap. Someone will be a brain surgeon. Someone will be a ditch digger. One should hope for a system that lets the more skilled of the the two individuals become the surgeon, rather than just letting the two jobs oscillate willy-nilly. But Asner hasn't thought this through -- perhaps because he only has a high school education.
And he actually thinks he has something to say which is worth listening to?? He's a funny, funny man.

What a laugh, a washed up actor goes to a think tank run by a washed up ex-senator (I now can't believe I ever voted for the jerk) at a party college full of dopers. just a bunch of ''chirping birds''

1--
"...sponsored by Public Policy Institute, which is directed by former U.S. Senator Paul Simon", "The Daily Egyptian, the university's newspaper...", "McGovern will be speaking to the SIU students on April 12." Uh huh, considering the source...
2--"It's ridiculous actors are the ones doing it. It strikes me as unbelievable that no legislators or leaders are in the press for speaking out."
He must not listen to the news at all. I've heard plenty of legislators and leaders speaking out. Not that their IQ level is any higher than these "anti-war" actors.
3--"I think that's unfortunate because entertainment is a marvelous conduit to reach people...".
To reach people is one thing, to teach people is quite another. Teaching involves facts, reaching only requires emotions and/or talking points.
4--Asner said people who regard Saddam Hussein in the same manner as Adolf Hitler should rethink the reasons Iraq is in its current condition. He said years of economic sanctions and the effects of past U.S. strikes against the country have put the people in a tough position.
So, Mr. Asner, economic sanctions makes tyrants out of dictators?
Saddam: Those mean old Americans! They won't let us buy WMD! Build some more monuments to me and bring me peasants to torture! I'll show 'em, I'll show 'em all!

"It's just difficult for me to imagine Hussein goose-stepping into Warsaw," Asner told the students. Typical liberal's use of a logical fallacy. No one ever argued this was likely, although the Iranians and Kuwaitis had some direct experience with Saddam's tendencies as a good neighbor.
Liberals never argue the main issue. That is the Hussein regime's bringing to bear the resources of a national program of development of WMD capability, and funneling those to sub-national groups for eventual use, on a worldwide scale.

Ah, yes, those horrible economic sanctions. If it weren't for the sanctions, Saddam wouldn't have had to suffer with a mere 18 bedrooms in his palaces.I would LOVE more coverage of the Dr.Bob report revealing the warehouse stacked floor to ceiling with food from the "oil for food" program. With disgust dripping from his voice he pointed out this food was intended for the not starving, but malnourished citizens of Iraq, and instead had been hoarded for Saddam's military.

If Saddam were smart, he would have attacked France. I for one can certainly see Iraqis goose-stepping into Paris. It's one fight he could win.

I think I read McGovern is at it again blasting Bush, etc. Read it on another group

Mr. Asner obviously didn't read a poll that asked participants if celebrities' opinions had any effect on their thinking about Iraq. The answer is: NO.
Just who the hell do these people think they are? Who cares what they think about anything?
Certain groups of people overestimate themselves.

The next guest speaker scheduled after Asner to speak for the SIU Public Policy Lecture series "What I Have Learned and Would Like To Pass On" will be former Presidential candidate and U.S. Senator George McGovern. McGovern will be speaking to the SIU students on April 12.They're trotting out marxist after marxist here. Must be too many righty-thinking kids here resisting faculty efforts to give them a proper education The faculty must feel the students need some 'softening up'.

This doesn't terribly surprise me. Carbondale is the last bastion of Communism in the Midwest.
I remember the riots in 1968. The tear gas floated over our house and I had to stay inside.
We moved shortly thereafter. Most decent people that work in Carbondale live elsewhere, like Murphysboro, Marion or DeSoto.
And when reading the Southern Illusion, always take with a grain of salt.

"It's just difficult for me to imagine Hussein goose-stepping into Warsaw," Asner told the students. Moron, he already marched into Kuwait and Iran, and butchered Kurds in Northern Iraq. Or shall we only defend white European males, you racist pig?
Asner said people who regard Saddam Hussein in the same manner as Adolf Hitler should rethink the reasons Iraq is in its current condition. He said years of economic sanctions and the effects of past U.S. strikes against the country have put the people in a tough position.
Mr. Asner, exactly why do you think the sanctions were being put into place? Cause comes before effect, moron.

what liars do when the dems dont need him to make harrassing phone calls to seniors in areas of closely contested elections...(no need to phone in other areas)
Old Ed used his phony "trusted" Lew Grant persona to fool senior citizens in Florida to vote dem...he lied to seniors telling them the Republicans were going to bankrupt social security drain it and leave them without food rent money or any medical care..
Meanwhile Algore was the one who voted the tie breaker to make social security funds to be spend on other designated programs other than social security..
Ed Assner ....liar commie traitor...kinda like Walter Cronkite ...
