Through Japanese news sources toda, we have come up with an interesting, new development in the checkered and questionable media career of PETER ARNETT.
Seems he has snagged himself another Baghdad news assignment, and has surfaced as an on-the-spot-reporter for Taipei, Taiwan-based cable TV station, "TVBS".

Peter Arnett (you'll see his face pop up on the right side of the screen together with Chinese text) is also passing on interesting military information. One wonders if this is of value, or whether he is playing the disinformation game for his Iraqi friends.
At any rate, for what it is worth, in Arnett's most recent report aired today on TVBS:
--The Iraqi government abandoned presidential palaces and government offices in Baghdad nearly 10 days ago, those which USA forces are now storming and occupying.
--The 'encirclement strategy' of the US military for Baghdad, Iraq is not complete. It is particularly weak on the eastern side of the city. While the US has a handle on main Iraqi highways leading out of the city through that direction, there are hundreds of smaller roads that the Iraqi government (and civilians) are freely using to escape. (By the east)

The forces in the East probably aren't as strong because it looks like the Marines have stalled a bit (embeds have been saying as much). But those Marines aren't far away and where would a person escaping to the East go? Iran? Unlikely that they wouldn't be spotted, even if they tried.

This guy is finished. Absolutely no credibility.

The 'encirclement strategy' of the US military for Baghdad, Iraq is not complete. It is particularly weak on the eastern side of the city. Is the uprising against the Ba'athist government that Iranian news and Fox News are reporting is taking place in Baghdad taking place in the Shiite east of the city?

(By the east) This could easily be part of the plan. In a modern siege it is accepted wisdom to leave an escape route so that the target can be taken with less effort. In this case it is interesting that the escape route is on the Iran side of Baghdad.

Eastern Baghdad is primarily composed of a Shiite population. Not a good place for Baath party members right now unless they like rope necklaces. Hence the smaller US presence. Probably teeming with SOGs (Spec Ops Groups) though. This is just great watching the cockroaches scurry around while Uncle Sam stomps them as fast as he can!
