Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Here's something I just received from a friend--hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

A friend of mine is an officer in the naval reserve. A few weeks ago, he was attending a conference that included admirals in both the US and the French navies. At a cocktail reception, my friend found himself in a small group that included an admiral from each of the two navies.

The French admiral started complaining that whereas Europeans learned many languages, Americans only learned English. He then asked. "Why is it that we have to speak English in these conferences rather than you have to speak French?"

Without even hesitating, the American admiral replied: "Maybe it is because we arranged it so that you did not have to learn to speak German?"

To that, the group became silent.

Didn't even get the first Rummy quote right - too much excitement today, lol.

"The cirlce circle is closing and their options are running out. As his regime collapses around him..peoplea re are asking, "where is he" (insert punctuation)? We may not know (add k,w) where he is, (insert comma) but do know he is not running Iraq." (^;

Not complete quote...at least 3 good Rummy rants today.

. . . excitement and anti-climax of all these WMD reports . . .

The media are looking for the hot story, so there will be many false starts and dead ends. I just wanted to get a summary of the latest reports up, and differentiate between them.

"Who was Achmed Villa?"

In the first days of the war, the BagCam was located on a different roof than the one where it is now. Do you remember the views of a traffic intersection, blinking light and what looked like a parking garage across the stree? (It turned out to be a bank).

As we watched the camera, we noticed there was a man who came out on the roof sometimes. We didn't know then that he tended the camera. He would sweep the roof, sometimes throwing trash off to the sidewalk and THEN he would look down to see if there was anyone on the sidewalk. LOL!

Sometimes Achmed had more men up there. We called those "keggers". On the first weekend, they moved the camera to a new location. For two days and nights running, we were treated to the sounds of saws, hammers and air compressors, but we couldn't see what they were doing. Thus, Achmed came to be called "Achmed Villa", host of "This Old Goat Barn" or "This Old Camera Shed".

There were other names and shows, among them Achmed The-Tool-Man Taylor. I would have to go back to remember all the names and show names. It would be worth the effort---very funny!

Yup. "This is Achmed Vila and welcome to 'This Old Bombed Out Sheethole'. Today Norm is going to build a credenza out of tank parts and pulverized concrete, because we are up to our armpits in it.".

You and I are going to have to take a trip to Butner for some R&R and therapy when this is done. :-)

But we'd just get upset there, too, because Jonathan Pollard is up there. We'd probably kill him.

Here's something I just received from a friend--hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

I thought the event was with Tom DeLay speaking with a French ambassador. He asked the French ambassador, "Do you speak German." Frenchie answered, "No." DeLay said, "You're welcome." And walked away.

Article was posted on FR.

Well, of course, we've got to add the cast of "This Old Mosque": Abdul Vila, Norm Habib and the new guy, Sahib Thomas...
And Enrico Palazzo (the loud Italian/Spanish guy on the NTV BagCam with the operatic voice - if you can't catch the reference, think "Naked Gun")...
And Barf the Iraqi dog...
And car alarms.

I figured it was a bank because it has an ATM. No one ever used it however. I remember the people standing on the street waiting for people to pick them up.
