NEW DELHI, April 5: Russia and India will conduct a joint naval exercise in the Indian Ocean next month, but both countries have clarified that the wargames are not linked to the American war on Iraq , Press Trust of India (PTI) said on Saturday.
"The forthcoming exercise would play a significant role in strengthening the co-operation, trust and mutual understanding between the two naval powers and heightening the level of stability in the zone of Indian Ocean," PTI quoted the Russian defence ministry as saying in Moscow.
The news agency stressed that the "defence ministry specifically noted that Indo-Russian naval war games are not linked to the US-led war against Iraq."
"The agreement to hold joint exercise was reached between the defence ministers of the two countries," PTI quoted the Russian statement as saying. It was referring to an announcement made by Defence Minister George Fernandes in Moscow after talks with his Russian counterpart in January.
Nine warships and auxiliary vessels of the Russian Pacific and Black Sea Fleets, which are shortly setting sail to the Indian Ocean, are to participate in the joint war games with the Indian Navy. However, it was not clear whether war games scenario would include a nuclear strike or counter-strike, PTI said.
Russia surprised many last month when it tested its Topol intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of striking the United States, when a high-ranking Indian delegation was visiting Moscow.

If you send a convoy of "diplomats" through the middle of a battlefield, they are likely to get shot at.
If you hold wargames, next to a real war, ......

"... both countries have clarified that the wargames are not linked to the American war on Iraq ..."
This from Dawn? Pakistan is in serious denial about something ominous.

Oh, boy this could really get interesting, Russia is being ever so bold. They tried to stay well hidden behind France, Germany, and Clintons skirts in supporting Saddam.
Clinton tried to go to India recently his travel plans got stopped.
India - Clinton/Enron flopped because no Ruben bail out!
Russia - N. Korea/Clinton 1994 adoption.
Russia - France, Germany, Clintons joined at hip. (China)
UN conspiracy
Russia - Saddam/Russian war advisors -
supported "terrorists"
Russia - Iran nuclear,
supports "terrorists"
Russia - Syria, wants same deal Iran got, going nuclear.
Syria playing both sides of good guy bad guy.
Syria get their oil pipeline shut off.
Syria suppports "terrorist"
Clinton is having "golf" with Canada's PM and stirring up the good citizens of Haiti. Castro stirring his evil pot.
China gets buried in a virus, now willing to talk about and with N. Korea.
What no Russia or Clinton in N. Korean talks? Russia says nothing publicly but sends horses to the mental Il for his birthday, but Clinton keeps saying, "all N. Korea wants is RESPECT".
France and Germany licking their wounds of no more "Oil for Food/Medicine money, making "Can't we just get along", calls.
Can't leave out France's pressure on Turkey to keep our troops out. Turkey looses most of grants and loans from US.
Getting really hard to keep up on the profiteers of "terror".
How much cash is India paying Russia to play war games?
We do live in interesting times.
