Neighbors living in Southeast Boise and in the Vista area are taking their spring cleaning seriously this year.

The Vista and Southeast neighborhood associations are both working with city code enforcement officers to deal with properties in their area where cars and trash have piled up.

He also battled with a contractor who parked his work trucks on his property

ON HIS OWN PROPERTY? How dare he?

Ah the Community Club spies strike again. Never buy in a neighborhood with a community club and restrictive covenants. Invariably you'll rue the day. It's only a matter of time until some president or board starts to take a liking to the power and has to exercise it.

Do-gooders like these folks are as bad as socialists. Unless there's a safety or sanitation hazard arising from the conditions of someones property the government really has no business interfering with peoples property rights. I remember my sister got harassed by folks of this ilk once when she repainted her house. It seems she hadn't strictly followed the covenant rules and asked the local commission for prior approval of her plans and paint scheme. They eventually approved her, but she was out some lawyers fees by the time it was over.

I respectfully disagree. While I detest too much government control...I will not buy in a neighborhood where anyone can park on their lawns, paint their house purple, etc.. One would think we didn't need associations but today's 'me first' culture proves otherwise. I'd rather have the rules that unfortunately are needed for the idiots who trash their yards and homes and thus deflate a neighbor's home value. I would ONLY buy in a development with rules and an association. I feel that if one wants to junk up their property, have business vehicles parked out front, etc.. then buy enough land where you don't detract from your neighbors.

Elmer said it, it's worth repeating.

I can understand complaining about real garbage, barking dogs, etc., but work trucks? This part of Boise is somewhat rural. I bet it's a bunch of people who have moved in from Seattle, and other socialist leaning places.I bet there was no covenants like this until they got everyone all worked up.

How could that possibly hurt the neighbors?

Boise was about the only area of Idaho that voted Gore in 2000, so of course you can't park your own truck on your own property in that town.

I didn't know that! I have always told people no Idaho counties except maybe Blaine County voted for Al Gore. All I know is the Idaho Republicans are in trouble unless they start standing for something. Wish Helen Chenoweth would run for governor.

I'm glad you spoke up and I stand corrected. Blaine was the only county that went Gore. In fact, Boise went Bush by ~75%.

Good, you had me worried. Its wasn't that bad in 2000, but things sure seem to be changing, Blinken got too many votes. I heard Dirk lost Ada county?

Thank you. If a person buys in a neighborhood with rules, they are obligated to follow them. My wife and I have paid a little more to be in such a neighborhood just so we wouldn't have these problems. Keep your lawn mowed and your cars off the grass, and there's no problem!

I agree. That's why you'll never find me living in an area with "enforcers."

You would know a lot more about local Idaho politics than I would, since I live in the SF Bay Area. There's been a trend in recent years of liberals moving away from the urban areas destroyed by their voting habits and into the flyover areas where property is cheaper and liberalism hasn't yet had opportunity to wreck the quality of life. Give them a little time and they will make life intolerable in Idaho, too.

"Complaints run the gamut from a paper cup in someone´s yard ..."

That's right. Someone actually called the government because their neighbor had a paper cup in their yard.

Pathetic whining ninnies with all the self reliance and mentality of second grade tattle tale schoolgirls.

"MMOOOOOOMMMY!! Timmy has a cup!"

Believe me, I know. Even the so-called republicans from there have been so brainwashed into socialism that they consider most of us native Idahoans radicals. Especially if we want to use our own property that we worked hard to buy, without okaying it with them first. They get up at meetings and say things like, "We must attract only quality people, or "We want only the right kind of people", or "You don't expect your children to live, or work here do you? This is a retirement area."

Infuriates this redneck!!
