"...our military or Congress should provide some type of reward."
Nah! They're too busy jumping on the "Jessica Lynch Instant Celebrity Train" to notice the real heroes of this incident. I am proud of PFV Lynch's service, happy she's been rescued, and wish her a full recovery. But I will not join in the remaking of her as the second coming of Diana, the Goddess of War, or something similar.

I consider that a compliment of the highest order.

Haven't you read all the "green glass" comments and animated nuke Mecca GIFs all over FreeRepublic since 11 Sep 2001? I guess I did read them, but had forgotten about it. I don't know much about urban warfare, but thought that if we *had* to "level Baghdad," we would. I hoped with all my heart that it wouldn't come to that. I am in absolute awe at what we're doing over there. I can't believe we are doing what we're doing with so few civilian casualties. I'm amazed at how far our technology has come since the Gulf War.

I was joking...however I will opine a caution. I have lived the world over in some serious places and have learned that some places are not good candidates for representational governance. Granted, Iraq deserves a more humane and less belligerant government...that goes without saying.

Sorry my reply didn't come across correctly. I knew you were joking.
I've always wondered why other countries, from my knowledge, never really gave an honest effort to emulate what we here in the good ol USA have as our founding documents.
Just think how rich some despot could be if he gave his people true freedom.

well saddam sure had the revenue to try but he never saw that big picture...a million dead innocents later.
The Gulf emirates are despots too technically but most have the good sense to spread the wealth.

I'm amazed at how far our technology has come since the Gulf War.It's so amazing. I heard talk on the radio yesterday of a "concrete bomb." Apparently, our weapons engineers have designed and balanced concrete in the shape of a laser-guided bomb. They strap on the laser guidance system and fins, and drop this thing on some unsuspecting Iraqi tank. WHAM! It hits, destroys the tank and causes _zero_ collateral damage.
Our fight is not with Muslims, or the people of Iraq, but only the Hussein regime. We're so powerful that we could utterly lay waste to the place, but we are so much more moral and humane than that, that we build bombs which don't explode just so innocents aren't hurt in the process of freeing them.
