More details from Sky:

British soldiers have found hundreds of human remains in a "makeshift morgue" in southern Iraq, according to a report from the PA news agency.

The skulls, bundles of bone in strips of military uniform, were dumped in plastic bags and unsealed cardboard coffins in an abandoned Iraqi military base on the outskirts of Al Zubayr.

It was impossible to say how long the remains had been there.

But the grim discovery will now be investigated by forensic specialists as possible evidence of atrocities perpetrated by the Iraqi regime.

Regards, Ivan

It sounds reminiscent of Pol Pot's killing fields.

Those "strips of military uniforms" may have been prison uniforms. Remember not too long ago Saddam released "all" his political prisoners? Before releasing them, he purges those he doesn't want to release. (He can arrest those he releases later anyway, so the idea of the "release" was grimly funny on two levels!) We may have found their remains. Alert Amnesty.

Mass graves? Remind you of anyone?
