One of Greg Kelly's video reports from last nite going into Bagdad showed one location that had about a dozen .... a dozen... of these statues. They were each about the size of the one being destroyed in the photo.
At first, I thought it was sort of a Saddam Statue Store, but each statue had a slightly different pose.
Saddam was proud of his appearance---also, it was a constant reminder to the populace of who was in charge [operative word being -- was].
