US war to rationalize democracy in Iraq disgusting: Sorabjee
Islamic Republic News ^ | 4-4-03

New Delhi, April, 4, IRNA - India's Attorney General, Soli Sorabjee
said on Friday that US war on Iraq to rationalize regime change from
outside in the name of democracy is disgusting.
Sorabjee while chairing the seminar titled 'Iraq War-Legal and
Ethical Implications' at Indian Law Institute here said that the US
war on Iraq is for oil.
In a well packed S. N. Jain Memorial Hall, Sorabjee said, the US
war on Iraq has opened a grave situation where a foreign country (can)
invade another country and dictate democracy to liberate its people
(while this) is unjust and has a grave impact on the U.N. system.
While condemning the US war on Iraq, Rajeev Dhawan, Senior
Advocate, Supreme Court of India also said, the present war is racist,
communal and imperial and a new form of genocide on Iraq which is
because of oil which is strategically located. This unjust war is
outside the jurisprudence, he added.
Rajinder Sachar, another senior advocate and prominent human right
activist said, the present US war on Iraq shows the American stupidity
which they claimed that when they will enter the Iraqi people will
rebel and war will be over in three days.
The warmongering attitude of US underestimated Iraq which is
an ancient civilization and sacred place and now the danger is that US
saying after we are free from Iraq we will draw our attention to
India. To confront this design of America mass mobilization is
required, he adds.
The talk on reconstruction after demolishing Iraq badly, he said,
is a dirty and shameful game wherein now the American MNCs are
fighting among themselves even before the results of the war.
While criticizing and condemning US war on Iraq, P.P.Rao, senior
Advocate at Supreme Court of India also said, it is most unfortunate
that the most democratic states have bypassed the liberal values,
human rights, UN Charter and other institutions created to ensure
peace and security. US has virtually taken blood into its hand
which is the gravest of crime against humanity.
Though Saddam is the ruthless dictator British and US jeopardized
legal issues by launching a unilateral attack on Iraq, he said.
Rao said, the public outrage and opinion is against the warmongers
and in US alone there were 91 protest demonstrations and (at) the
present world it is (the) public opinion which alone can have
tremendous effect to shape the future of world polity.
He said, "The war on Iraq is neither legal nor ethical and
(the) US is bent on might and right philosophy of law of jungle. This
kind of US action is terrorism as they have bypassed the most
democratic UN system and the Security Council and the Charter.
Criticizing US policies on terrorism, he said, America is not
tackling terrorism (but) rather creating and provoking terrorism.
Should this Iraq war escalate the consequences will be far-reaching
and catastrophic for the stake of preserving sovereignty of the
countries.
Rao said, it is the people who have the right to decide their
regime and the whole US exercise is without legal justification and
(thus it is) immoral and illegal.
Jitendra Sharma, a senior advocate at Supreme Court of India,
too, said, the US and British media reports and stories were false and
untrue that there is rebellion and suppression of Iraqi society as
neither Kurds, nor tortured Iraqis, came out to welcome US-UK forces
as was planed. Iraqi people have the determination and dignity to
defend their country not the US and that is the reason why the
American plans have gone haywire and astray.
If Weapons of Mass Destruction is the excuse of US to attack
Iraq then America will subjugate the whole world, he said.
Bush knows Iraq's WMD as he can plant them now to save his face,
he added.

"...here said that the US war on Iraq is for oil."

Actually, it is actually the OPPOSITION to the war that is based on oil interests.

India's Attorney General, Soli Sorabjee said on Friday that US war on Iraq to rationalize regime change from outside in the name of democracy is disgusting.

You mean, a war like the one India launched against East Pakistan in 1971, justified by them precisely on the grounds it was to chasnge the regime?

The Indians are the biggest hypocrits on Earth and should shut the F up.

The VHP doesn't have to contest elections. They're free to say what they want. The rest have to appease India's 150 million (or thereabout) Muslims. It's a shame, really.
