But I'm awaiting evidence that UNEMPLOYMENT numbers are somehow extracted from taxes paid

Ah! Unemployment stats are not extracted from taxes paid. I never said they were. I said the jobs numbers were derived from the employer FICA reporting.

In your post #52 you had taken issue with my statement that jobs in all categories are counted, non-union and small business. I thought you were disagreeing, arguing that self-employed consultants are not included in the jobs numbers derived from the federal withholding payroll reports.

So, I was in my post #56 explaining how the employer reporting provides the basis for the jobs numbers, no matter how the worker is paid. I was not explaining the basis for unemployment rate in my post #56.

So, in your post #58 (responding to my #56) I see the first instance in our conversation were you referenced unemployment to me, specifically:

Do you have any evidence that the labor department, which releses the unemployment stats, uses SS #s? This is the first I've heard of that. I thought they used business survey #s.
I did not realize you were asking how employer reports generate data for unemployment rates, I don't think I implied that, and I thought we had been discussing where the data for the jobs numbers (not the unemployment rate) comes from.

See the post by sarcasm. It is quite revealing as to how people could "lose their jobs" and still have their own business---it all involves merely answering certain questions, and employment stats have nothing to do with taxes as I think you suggested.
