The M-14 was adopted in 1957 and the M-16 was adopted in 1964 giving the M-14 the shortest timespan of all the issued weapons. The Krag comes in second,1892-1903.

There can be some dispute over this since it's still in inventory and used by the Navy.

From what you're saying the M-14 wasn't available for WWII. Is that right? Was the M-14 in the "Combat" television series (Vic Morrow) a fiction? I'm not knowledgeable enough to know.
