DON'T HASSLE WAR PROTESTERS; THEY EXERCISE A BIRTHRIGHT
Yesterday (March 31) at Roosevelt Bridge I saw a self-proclaimed Vietnam veteran stare hatefully at a peace demonstrator who was holding a sign with the message, "Support our troops: bring them home." The veteran raised a cane, pointed it at the demonstrator's chest and said, "I shoot you through the heart."
Some people have the idea that being pro-peace is unpatriotic, that not supporting our government is anti-American. It was dissention with a corrupt and unfair government that led to our very existence as a country. Speaking out, quite literally, is our birthright.
I absolutely support our troops. I can make a distinction between those brave Americans on the front lines and the political manipulators safe in Washington, playing their chess game with war-profit contracts as the prize. I am an American who is angry that our sons and daughters are being sent to war and we are fed fiction instead of truth as to the reason.
These so-called patriotic rallies at Roosevelt Bridge are sponsored by Clear Channel Radio. The links between Clear Channel and the Bush junta were well-delineated in an article by Paul Krugman in the News. According to Krugman, the vice chairman of Clear Channel Radio was the man who made George Bush a multi-millionaire through some shady dealings with the Texas Rangers baseball team.
So is what we are seeing at the Roosevelt Bridge the base level of a new American oligarchy? Use our American right of free speech to voice opposition to the government and private media companies will respond by organizing and funding counter-demonstrations in which demonstrators are encouraged to intimidate and threaten dissenters. That reminds me of Nazi Germany.
I think that this war is a wake-up call for all of us. It is an invitation to look at how we live our lives, what our values are, our spiritual connections, how our government is run, how we allow others to choose for us what we think and what we buy and eat and breathe. And above all, it is a wake-up call for true patriots to practice and honor our hard-won right of freedom of speech so that we can learn the truth about what is really happening.
Thank you, News, for being willing to print diverse points of view. And thanks to the local law enforcement officers for keeping the peace at Roosevelt Bridge.

Mr. Fisher;
Do you indeed support our troops?
Do you vote for people who will support a strong military, including defense budgets, salaries, etc?
Do you support soldiers in their desire and ability to do the job that they have been asked to do"
Do you support the missions that the soldiers have willingly committed to undertake?
Do you support the soldiers in their task of defending our country?
Do you do anything to assist military families?
I ask, Mr. Fisher, HOW do you support the troops?
The "Bush junta"?
These smelly, '60's era wannabes are all stuck in a time warp.
They still think they're fighting the Batista regime with Fidel and Che - or wish they could be.
Miserable commies all of them.
Talked about the four categories of peace protesters.
1. Pacifists: Sincere, with something like Amish Tourette's Syndrome
2. Everybody is Hitler: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld...except Saddam who puts innocents in a wood chipper
3. Those with a Political Agenda: Pelosi, Daschle, Kennedy, etc. "The Elite Democrat Guard"
4. Yahoo nutcases: Use any excuse to smash in a Gap store window.
