There's an airfield near Al Kut There's an airfield near just about everywhere in Iraq. Over 100, as I understand, can be used by moderate sized aircraft, and were built by Saadumb. I'm not sure how many can be used in HOT weather by our fixed wing A/C, but certainly the choppers and C130s can... I'm not sure about the C17 takeoff roll vs. the C130, but I suspect they are able to use them, too.
