And so I will not compromise my values by flinging accolades at a person that in my view didn't belong on the battlefield to begin with.

Refusing to acknowledge, or prejudging, an individual's accomplishments or actions simply because of opposition to the group (gender) they belong to is pretty much the straightforward definition of bigotry and prejudice.

My opposition to women in combat roles will NEVER cause me to automatically refuse to recognize an individual's actions or accomplishments.

You should take this to a thread about the politics of women in combat roles rather than continue to insert politics into a thread about this individual soldier. Regardless of the merits of your political argument it continues to be an ugly exercise on your part to post it to this particular thread.

I will attempt to end some of this ugly exercise by at least not bumping my half of the argument anymore. Going to bed.

For the record, well done and welcome home Jessica.

Your whole argument is predicated on your assumption of accomplishments. So what did this woman do to attract such adoration?

She got lost. She became a POW.

That, in my opinion, is not enough to make her a hero. I think "hero" is used too fast and loose in our society.

The real question is, why does it bother you so much that I disagree with you?

You think she's a hero--fine. I don't.

My little dissenting voice evidently has some people very upset.
