Lynch Shot Iraqi Soldiers

Pfc. Jessica Lynch, rescued Tuesday from an Iraqi hospital, fought fiercely and shot several enemy soldiers after Iraqi forces ambushed the Army's 507th Ordnance Maintenance Company, firing her weapon until she ran out of ammunition, U.S. officials said yesterday.

P.S. This is why we lost more people in the Civil War than all the other wars since combined.

I won't disagree with you that Americans can fight very fiercely (which was your point), but I can't let this pass.

We suffered such huge casualties in the Civil War, compared to subsequent wars, because
(a) tactics lagged far behind technological improvements (e.g., men were still "massed" in the antiquated way, and moved too slowly, too close to artillery fire);
(b) wounded men had only the most primitive medical care (by WWI, medical technology had improved greatly);
(c) even more men died from combined effects of contagious diseases and malnutrition than from combat. Food poisoning was very common and continued to be so through the Spanish-American War, but less so after that.

I don't remember when Greenwood came into office. Back then I lived in Montgo--now Hoeffel's district. Hoeffel, Greenwood. I see no difference, really. I would also like to see Conti voted out of state office.

While I whole-heartedly agree that God created men and women to fulfill precisely different roles, our God-given freedom also gives women the same rights as men.
If we start to restrict freedoms based on gender, then next it'll be race, and then we'll go after the smokers, and then the fastfood restaurants! Oh, wait! We're already going down that path...and it sounds bad.

"I have no doubt that the story of her shooting Iraqis and fighting to the end is true -- but HOW do they know that? Everyone with her was either killed or captured."

Reports I read are that the military had heard of her exploits from Iraqis prior to her recovery. Unconfirmed, but it seems that the Iraqis were surprised and impressed by her actions. In time, we'll gain a beter understanding of the accuracy of that report.

To all who argue over whether she qualifies as a hero or not, it would help to understand the true dfinition of hero rather than a perceived definition of the word. From the Merriam-Webster dictionary...

Main Entry: he·ro
Pronunciation: 'hir-(")O, 'hE-(")rO
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural heroes
Etymology: Latin heros, from Greek hErOs
Date: 14th century
1 a : a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b : an illustrious warrior c : a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d : one that shows great courage
2 a : the principal male character in a literary or dramatic work b : the central figure in an event, period, or movement
3 plural usually heros : SUBMARINE 2
4 : an object of extreme admiration and devotion : IDOL

She qualifies at least in part unser 2b, and 4 as a hero. So do Michael Jordan, Eminem, and many others. She is the central figure in a POW recovery, and the central figure of great debate right now. There are many who admire her and idolize her right now. She has told family that she wants to finish her term of service in the military. This is a very tough young woman, blessed to be from rural America where values and families are still strong. Her close family and close community in her upbringing gave her the foundation that helped to make her strong. Solid genetics probably helped, too. Hell, I'm male, wear size 15 shoes and a size 14 ring. Big, powerful, and I admire her and see her as something of a role model. She has come through a personal hell, yet after her ordeal, she still feels a sense of responsibility to serve her country. I don't give a damn what anyone says, she is literally a hero by definiton. The people who were involved in her rescue are each and every one heroes as well. We may never know their names, and they may never get the recognition they deserve. For that, I am sorry, but I believe that Jessica deserves nothing but support. The experience she has been through is something many of us here could not and would not have weathered as well. I doubt they were giving her anything for pain, and I doubt she was allowed to lay quietly on a nice soft bed during her time as a POW. Two broken legs, a broken arm, at least one gunshot wound, and from talk radio last night possibly a stab wound as well. And minimal, if any medical care. Regardless of personal opinions over the validity of women in combat, she was there, she did her job, she got something a lot worse than a lousy t-shirt, and she's not ready to quit. If you cannot respect her for that, and if you still want to argue peripheral issues, then you may have a problem that needs professional or divine help.

I won't repeat what I said about 19 year old girls in combat. She can back me up anytime, give her a promotion, get her to the White House whatever. American women, nothing like 'em on earth. Hoo Rah!

The officer said that Special Operations forces found what looked like a "prototype" Iraqi torture chamber in the hospital's basement, with batteries and metal prods.

Sounds like a "dual-use" facility, no?

"I've always believed that women who enter the military, having spent their lives as a "little sister" to a "big brother(s)" are the most combat ready soldiers on the face of the earth.......and I just bet Jessica Lynch has a big brother(s)!!!"

She does and he's in the Army, and her little sister has already signed up to enlist, and despite what happened to her sister can't wait to serve her country. I'd say that courage runs in the family.

Dave Christian, the most decorated Vietnam war veteran in America, lives near me here in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Are you sure? I've heard James Bo Gritz also described that way. How many "most decorated Vietnam Vets" can there be?

I, personally, do not believe that women have the same killer instinct that men have.

You obviously, have never confronted a mother protecting her children (a human mother or an animal). Be warned!

Sorry - we redheads actually have a lower pain tolerance. In fact, studies show we need 20% more anesthesia during surgery. See here.

I would want a cyanide capsule attached to my tags if I were in the war...death is welcomed over torture.

The devil would welcome you to hell then with open arms. You obviously have never read the lives of the martyrs for inspiration.

Hebrews 11.33 Who by faith conquered kingdoms, wrought justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, recovered strength from weakness, became valiant in battle, put to flight the armies of foreigners.

35 Women received their dead raised to life again. But others were racked, not accepting deliverance, that they might find a better resurrection.

36 And others had trial of mockeries and stripes: moreover also of bands and prisons.

37 They were stoned, they were cut asunder, they were tempted, they were put to death by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being in want, distressed, afflicted:

38 Of whom the world was not worthy: wandering in deserts, in mountains and in dens and in caves of the earth.

39 And all these, being approved by the testimony of faith, received not the promise:

40 God providing some better thing for us, that they should not be perfected without us.

12.1 And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses over our head, laying aside every weight and sin which surrounds us, let us run by patience to the fight proposed to us:

2 Looking on Jesus, the author and finisher of faith, who, having joy set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and now sitteth on the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For think diligently upon him that endured such opposition from sinners against himself that you be not wearied, fainting in your minds.

4 For you have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

5 And you have forgotten the consolation which speaketh to you, as unto children, saying: My son, neglect not the discipline of the Lord: neither be thou wearied whilst thou art rebuked by him.

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chastiseth: and he scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 Persevere under discipline. God dealeth with you as with his sons. For what son is there whom the father doth not correct?

8 But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are made partakers, then are you bastards and not sons.

I am surprised that Jesse hasn't said anything. Maybe he actually has some taste. At any rate, the poster is somewhat right. The media likes 'the beautiful people', young and virginal looking. Shoshana was no story because she's older and has two kids. If anything, I've seen her brought up in a lot of anti-feminist threads. I noticed that the media did play her somewhat but as soon as everyone found out about Lynch, you'd swear Shoshana didn't even exist. And what about the girl from Tuba City?

Al Sharpton should not be allowed to talk to the Iraqis though. Should he? How is that happening?

Higher intolerance to pain. We're almost impossible to knock out for surgery, and are hypersensitive to our surroundings.

Your poor spelling, lack of reading skills, hyperbole and crude language make me question you're the same person with all the degrees listed on your homepage.

I said many posts ago that I thought Jessica Lynch was heroic, brave and had sacrificed greatly in a just war which will end when the Islamofascist terrorists and socialist opportunists are destroyed.

Lighten up on the social engineering and spend more time in church.

Jessica Lynch, 19, Female
Nicholas De Genova, 35, Male
Pfc. United States Army's 507th Maintenance Co. Barely out of High School

Columbia University. 17 years out of High School. Professor of Anthropology.

Risked her life so that others may live in freedom and to insure that Professor De Genova does not get a bio bomb up his ass.

Risked his lunch hour to say in public that he wished Jessica would die, and that she has a treacherous lack of prospects for a decent life.

Dishonored by Columbia University
Honored by Columbia University.
...........he still has a job.
