The War Plan Has Not Failed; It's Working Brilliantly
April 2, 2003
America, we simply must put this "failed plan" in Iraq B.S. into perspective. To do so, listen to my Wednesday opening monologue in the audio link below or read it in the transcript provided. The left has seized on a pile of unnamed sources, leaks and retired generals to back up their preconceived conclusion that the war would fail before it even started. This coverage is 100% false.
Facts: We've obliterated both the Medina and Baghdad divisions of the supposedly elite Republican Guard; we have total air superiority, control over a third of the country, neutralized the Scud threat and secured the oil fields. We are 18 miles outside of Baghdad after 12 days. In comparison, it took Janet Reno and the Clinton administration 51 days to take the Branch Davidian compound in Waco.
Another point: in your entire life, have you ever heard a government plan labeled a "failed plan" after two weeks? After $6 trillion of wealth being transferred from the producers to the non-producers over the 35-year "Great Society," we don't say the War on Poverty failed. We don't even have failures in the American school system. We don't even call the UN or Hans Blix failures.
If anything, the left says "alleged failures" in those cases, or that someone "charges" that something failed. (They then promptly demand more funding.) But the press instantly reports as fact that this war plan "has failed." All liberalism is a failure, because it just doesn't survive against reality. Something has to explain this premature ejaculation of the failure talking points. The Democratic leadership (by this I do not mean you rank-and-file members, but rather the radicalized leaders) and their willing accomplices in the press have wanted to portray Gulf War Two as Vietnam Two since before it began.
These people hate Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and all the rest over Election 2000 and so much else. There's a war between the red states and the blue states - also known as the liberal-fantasy-wishes-versus-conservatives-getting-the-job-done war. There's also a war between Old and New Europe, the old and new media, and ex-presidents and our current president. I don't need my glasses to see failed liberalism, failed socialism and failed journalism. George W. Bush is not failing, and neither are our men and women in uniform. Saddam and the French are failing. If all this success is the new definition of failure, give us more of it!
