But again, I'm sorry if I offended you You didn't offend me, I felt it was a hard slam on the dead soldiers and the millions of good folks that are from California .
I accept your apology and I probably over reacted, as I grow pretty damn weary of people from other parts of the country attempting to paint everyone in Cal as part of the the extreme left and socialist screw worms. Sometimes I feel like a dog that's been beat one to many times, and want to bite everyone.
The truth of the matter is that many of us here in California stand quite a few paces to the right of President Reagan and President Bush.
Dead American soldiers ring my bell hard. I am sure you understand........

I pinged the AM in my other post so he could delete it, I forgot to state that.......
To: Joe Hadenuf
Hey Joe, I COMPLETELY understand. If you're a conservative living in CA, I'll bet it feels lonely sometimes (and probably as if you have to defend truth with every tooth and nail).
But like I said, I shouldn't have generalized an entire state. I know I have a lot of conservative brethren in CA and NY, and I certainly don't want to lump them in with the Berkeley crowd - that's a huge insult.
Besides, BUD/S is in Coronado, and the Marine Corps Recruit Depot is in San Diego - and both of those places have been turning out some of the finest Americans ever to walk the Earth for years.
President Reagan was from CA, and I cannot overlook that.
So it was purely my mistake for lumping CA and NY in one group without being more specific.

The young men and women in our military come from all over America.
They are the best soldiers in the world. They are American soldiers. This is what it means to be one.
I was once one of them I know what it takes to be one. They come from fly-over-country. They come from every state in the nation. They are REAL America. Not the imitated America you see on TV or in the movies. These people who put thier lives on the line for freedom, not lay down in the street in symbolism. They are the substance behind the America. They are our children and will continue to be heroes even after all the Hollywood crowd are dead and forgotten. History will speak of the American soldier with respect and fear.
All the world is watching us and they are seeing the real soldier. The next war may not be so PC but whatever they are called to do they will do with honor. As they have always done. I think it is amazing that in my lifetime I will get to see America liberate three complete countries from opression. Maybe not freed but liberated.
People say "Why does everyone hate us? What can we do to make them like us again?" I say we dont want their affection, I want their respect. Love is given, respect is only earned.
These "surprising" soldiers are everyday soldiers just now getting the spotlight for a while.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
God Bless The American Soldier.

The embedded media is becoming a problem. I've noticed that CNN has really cut back on reports from the field. And on CNN International...you get almost no live reports from the field...its strictly the edited reports that the studio can control. I've noticed several reports (particulary with the BBC) that the reporters have actually notified BBC to correct them (edited versions of their reports). The embedded reporters didn't even mix their words with their management...it was direct and to the point...get the words straight or else. They are standing by their troops. This entire episode may have breed 600 right-wing type reporters...who will be a force to be reckoned with in five to ten years in the media.

The reason you can't see CNN is because they get their feed from Reuters and Reuters was told by Iraqi TV to take down the signal for CNN.
This action has nothing to do with embedded reporters.
However, I do agree with you that the embedds are causing quite a stir. And ... I agree these new converts will be a force to be dealt with; but I don't think it will take more than 6 mos to a year. I have noticed the embedds saying "we" and "us" more than usual.
In fact, FOX was talking about it last night, and asking their embedds how difficult they thought it was to be a part of the group; especially those who have been involved with live fire. Since I believe the FOX guys are already leaning right (with few exceptions) - they didn't seem to be having a problem with it.
However, there was a story on FR yesterday: WHERE DID YOU GET THESE GUYS - awesome story of a CNN embedd's experience with the group he was with. The guy broke down while he was on the air; he ended his segment with "where did you get these guys". I was bawling when I read it. I guarantee you this guy will never be the same. He will never view the military the same and he will never view America the same.
I have also predicted that when these guys get home they will begin to see America very differently - and they will not be happy with their news groups. I believe that if these guys are not able to sway their news groups - they will break away and start new organizations where they can report the truth.
This cannot be anything but great for America. However, I suspect this is going to be very, very bad for the democrats.

We get men (and women) like this from America. God, I love this country. I served her while in the U.S. Air Force (Vietnam); I served her before I was in the Air Force by being a good son, a good brother, and a good friend; I serve her now in the same way. America is truly blessed, but it is only blessed because of her people. I love her and I embrace her. And I will not let anyone harm her, whether from outside or inside.

I have been so favorably impressed by every Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine who has been interviewed in conjunction with this war -- whether they be a lowly enlisted man or a highly decorated General, or Admiral. Where do they get those men (and women)? Without exception they have been articulate and dedicated. I am both proud and humbled to call myself an American next to these young men and women.
Amen to that. I am also impressed with Jessica Lynch's brother Greg Jr. A fine young man that represents his family well.

You know, sometimes I see teenagers and wonder.. (I'm sure people have done this through the generations!) The embedded reporters with our troops really show me that we have some great (younger) folks out there.

Looks like this one may be an urban legend. Yup, looks pretty cut and dried - so such interview took place according the CNN, the named source.
To the marines, you guys aren't heroic enough, so some pudgy pantywaist sitting at home is gonna make up some lies about an interview that never happened! Boy that really frosts me. The Marines are the real-deal - they don't need this kind of crap passed around when these guys are heroic enough without any additional bullsh*t. Lies like this only make every heroic exploit suspect.
