WHERE DO THEY GET YOUNG MEN LIKE THIS?
Martin Savidge of CNN, embedded with the 1st Marine battalion, was talking with 4 young Marines near his foxhole this morning live on CNN. He had been telling the story of how well the Marines had been looking out for and taking care of him since the war started. He went on to tell about the many hardships the Marines had endured since the war began and how they all look after one another. He turned to the four and said he had cleared it with their commanders and they could use his video phone to call home. The 19 year old Marine next to him asked Martin if he would allow his platoon sergeant to use his call to call his pregnant wife back home whom he had not been able to talk to in three months. A stunned Savidge who was visibly moved by the request shook his head and the young Marine ran off to get the sergeant. Savidge recovered after a few seconds and turned back to the three young Marines still sitting with him and asked which one of them would like to call home first, the Marine closest to him responded with out a moments hesitation Sir, if is all the same to you we would like to call the parents of a buddy of ours, Lance Cpl Brian Buesing of Cedar Key, Florida who was killed on 3-23-03 near Nasiriya to see how they are doing. At that Martin Savidge totally broke down and was unable to speak. All he could get out before signing off was Where do they get young men like this?.

If anyone here hasn't visited the blog of Lt. Smash, it's a must. It's an updated view from the front lines in Iraq.

The reporter should be told that they get young men like this in the non-liberal, non-America hating part of the country that he doesn't hang out in. (Hint: it's between California and New York)

I have had the pleasure to work with many young men like this through scouting. Our young men and women in the servic are putting their lives on the line and they don't mind giving more to help others.
I am very proud of all of them.

Just remember this when you are exposed to what many would like to describe as "the youth of America." For example, when you see all the young folks shouting their ignorant hatred during a "peace" demonstration, remember those that you don't see, those that outnumber these poor examples.
The silent majority of America's youth, and its best examples of good men and women, are humbly serving in the military overseas, or home taking care of sick relatives, or working hard on their job, or busy raising their young family, or doing missionary work, or buried in studies (not protesting) in college.

Hey, they come from everywhere. 10 of the 49 dead (more than 20%) are from California, and two are from NYC.

This is exactly what Rush has been talking about. He said the mainstream media has no idea what they've done. These embedded media have not only begun to see these young men in a different light (ala flyover country), they are beginning to bond with them. I too have noted several of them saying "we" and "us" during their reports.
Several of us here on FR were saying that these media people are going to come home with a totally different view of America. And ... hopefully, their newfound attitude will give them a more "fair and balanced" view of what they're reporting.
And ... I'm predicting that if these embedded media do not get to voice their newfound view - they will break off and start an organization where they can.

I have been so favorably impressed by every Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine who has been interviewed in conjunction with this war -- whether they be a lowly enlisted man or a highly decorated General, or Admiral. Where do they get those men (and women)?
Without exception they have been articulate and dedicated. I am both proud and humbled to call myself an American next to these young men and women.
