PETA Wants Military To Bring Dolphins Home

NORFOLK, Va. -- Bring the dolphins home! That's the message of one group of protesters who are mad at Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Members of PETA -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals -- don't want dolphins used in the war effort.

The animals are trained by the Navy to detect underwater mines. The Norfolk, Va., based activists have faxed and e-mailed a letter to Rumsfeld with their objections.

PETA also doesn't like the idea of GIs using chickens and pigeons to detect a chemical attack. PETA argues that wars are human endeavors and that the animals "never enlisted."

Ask them if those animals that died in the western forest fires were enlisted firefighters??? or victims of their sister group, the tree huggers.

The dolphins can leave anytime they want to. Apparently one already has. In addition, the dolphins are trained how to recognize and how to avoid mines. They only return to their trainer because they are well cared for.

The dolphins are all the better for their involvement.

This has nothing to do with how the animals are treated.

Maybe we should ask the dolphins what they think. Seems to me they were enjoying their job.

They are having too much fun and they love the attention.

Yep, you can tell from the film that they are very affectionate with their handlers. Of course PETA doesn't think people should own dogs or cats either.

Anyone who prefers a human death over an animal death is mentally unbalanced.

Did anyone from PETA ask any of the animals? Perhaps they did enlist of their own free will. I'm sure the military can find some pet psychologist to back up the assertion that the animals want to be there!!

Did anyone see the special that was aired on the Dolphins and seals being used? It was great. Those dolphins are loving life! They are treated better than most of the soldiers themselves! How the heck anyone could watch that special and still complain is beyond me. Get a grip would ya?

AHA! You've just stumbled on the reason. These dolphins are living a better life than the PETA's!

We can't have that every creature MUST be as miserable as the the most pathetic animal starting with themselves.
